It's an OEM accessory and an $$ part.

By itself, I wouldn't be surprised if it was all cosmetic. It may only become functional once you complete the rest of the aerodynamics; front, skirts and undercarriage diffusers.

Why not wait for an aftermarket unit that will have the same build quality but a lower price.

You guys are nuts to pay $750 for that thing from the factory.

Give it a couple months and you'll see 10 different aftermarket companies selling them on ebay for $200 shipped or less.

I agree that it looks pretty sharp, and I think i'd like to have one on my car at some point.. but not for $750.. holy crap!

As was said in previous threads, cover up the rear suspension components before thinking about underbody aero pieces.

I'm kind of a fan of how it looks...I don't think any aerodynamic benefit would be noticeable for a daily driver.

I didn't get it but figure I can later - looks to be a simple bolt on.

There was another metal type defuser (ok air channeler ) for the BRZ/FRS that's available too. I'd rather pay for that one than this one. I highly doubt any of these aero stuff are actually effective, but hey to each his/her own.

the Subaru rear diffuser thing is just for aesthetics/cosmetics. I think the reason price is set so high so it would steer copycats away from buying it to replicate for reaping profits.

Just like STi V-limited front lips for WRX/STi back in the early days (2004~07).. They were going for $500+ when exchange rates Japanese Yen to U.S dollars were good..

Why would pricing it higher prevent copycats? Subaru overcharging just means that the copycats can charge more for a knockoff while still undercutting Subaru.

I was thinking the same thing. Copycats in China routinely buy Rolex's to copy them. The price of authentic rolex's don't stop them. Do you really think a couple hundred bucks will stop them? I say it's just Subaru trying to rip off their customers as best they can period.

It doesn't. On my 02 WRX, the STI V2 front lip cost $750 USD, ended up picking it up and a few months later there are all replicas out. The only difference though is that most replicas became single piece whereas the STI V2 still was two piece with a middle joint covered by an "authentic" STI sticker.

It's normal for factory aero parts to charge that much for pieces anyways.
