It's very infuriating. Summer is coming quick and potentially another AutoX season missed. I am really hoping for some luck today when I go to Toyota dealer I started communicating with...

* update-

New dealer- The salesman (young kid) had people he was working with when I walked in. Once he went on the test drive with his customers I started talking the sales manager. At first he seemed annoyed- not at me but at the fact that he had to explain the ordering process to another person. He explained that I'm the first to walk in and ask for a a GR86 order, he can take my refundable deposit, and submit. It's up to Toyota to accept it. He said he has a back log of 15 Rav4's. From the time of allocation/order to delivery he said it's 4 months. I think he said he gets allocations once a month? March allocations already went out I think? Can someone confirm?

I'm doing the deposit over the phone tomorrow.

Either way, this is not looking good.

Covid/Pandemic, Inflation, world war and processing that, family/kids stress, there seems to be no break. People have it worse yes. We all have to be grateful and patient..

Finally it's here!

Timeline:
November 12th put my first deposit (Walnut Creek)
December 28th first contacted Auburn Toyota
March 2nd Auburn Toyota called me that they have a car allocated. I got the VIN and checked the status, it was "A"
On March 4th the status changed to "F" with ETA March 17–22
On March 15th the ETA changed to 17–19
On March 18th the car was delivered
On March 19th I picked it up

The door sticker shows that the car was made in February 2022.

The car was speced with a few dealer accessories that I didn't want (door edge guards, clear rear bumper applique, GR shift knob) but whatever.

It sounds like some of the younger folks are having trouble digesting how much times are changing. I’m curious how bigger issues are being handled if a cheap car is such a big deal. Don’t forget you have to retire one day and there isn’t going to be any social security. We have bigger problems right now. If you can get your car, truly afford it, eat, and retire one day, you are still fortunate compared to most.

Wow, congrats. A little over 2 weeks from when you received an allocation to pickup is awesome. That gives me some hope for getting a car for summer. It seems typical ETA from date of allocation is 2-4 times that wait.

My salesman has stopped responding as well lol. I haven't seen a delivery of 86's to their lot / website since the initial wave.

It is not just the 86 or even Toyota.
My grandson is in month 3 of "2 to 6 months" waiting for a Corolla. A bloody Corolla.
My wife is in week 12 of "3 or 4 weeks" for an Ascent.
A buddy is in MONTH 2 of 3 WEEKS for a Tacoma.

The salespeople and dealerships are not at fault here. Things are messed up and will be for years.
Just relax and

Agreed, that's why I'm glad the insurance company repaired my 86. I did not want to be in the market right now, even with 197K miles on the car.

I'm not blaming anyone, just 2nd'ing an experience others are having right now.

In hindsight, I probably should have put my allocation request in with a larger dealership.

Didn't think you were. My statement was generic to the thread not specific to you. Just happened to follow yours is all. In fact you seem quite reasonable about the whole thing.

I waited 13 months for my C8 - from placing a deposit to get my name on a list to delivery; so I can understand where everyone is coming from who is waiting for their car. Be patient! You'll be driving and enjoying your cars and it'll be worthit!

Yeah, I totally have a full understanding of the circumstances and how insane and concerning our times has become. I'm grateful for what I have in my life. I hope I did not sound like I was complaining. I would never complain about this in the real world around people. lol

My first ordered car was a Camaro V6 1le early 2021. So my order never showed up because of supply issues. Now same with the 86.

My first ordered car was a 1985 IROC Z28. I ordered it with 4 wheel disc brakes and yellow, plus some other options that were on the build list. Whatever combination I put together (I don't remember the details now) was going to be a later in the model year availability.

I'm still waiting for the dealer to call me that it has shipped.....
