1) Find empty lot
2) Hoon
3) Ask for feedback/tips in the drift thread here

0) (Optional) watch the 1 hr. "drift bible" video on YouTube. Focus on the basics of drifting (how/why). The techniques such as heel-toe, feint, etc. aren't as important until later.

Little exercise that was suggested to me: while stopped, turn the wheel completely to the left or right, then mash the pedal. Now see if you can make the slide in a wider circumference.

Not a GT86 but heres how to drift from a pro. lol. "Dont mess up mona"

"All right, look, man, there's lots of ways you can do this, all right?
Hand braking is the easiest,
so the first thing I want you to do,
I want you to rip that e-brake.
All right, after you rip the e-brake,
then I want you to power over."

Teaching how to drift is like explaining what salt taste to the person never tasted salt.

I'll keep it in 3 simple guides.
1. Watch Drift Bible
2. Go to local drift event
3. Just do it

You physically do it, your body gotta learn it. If you live in Japan, there are so many drift event, both beginner & pro.

The concept is the same regardless of the car. Each car behaves a bit differently but all cars are bound to the same laws of physics. In the end, regardless of what you're driving, you're trying to accomplish the same thing.

I recommend staying away from parking lots.

Go to an event. Reason I say that is because there are generally quite a few people there who know what they're doing and if you're willing to ask and listen, people are willing to help. That is much better than blindly trying random things by yourself illegally in an abandoned lot somewhere.

The drift bible and videos will help you get the basic concept of what you're trying to do and different methods but to apply them correctly, you need seat time.

Buy turn spin knob and extra tires and go drive. Lots. Add more things as you progress.

Done.

I would happily do that, but I drive a FWD truck, and the technique is different

Nah, I'm not good at all - hell, I've already crashed into a curb . But like mentioned above, the video wouldn't provide any more help than our text would. If you really are unsure of yourself, have someone that is a little more experienced ride with you, or even ride with them.

+1 for advice. If you are unsure, don't fuck around and risk your car. Get someone that knows, learn, and then do it.

You must be in high school and want to pose as a drifter. We said go watch the drift Bible. Better yet, sell your frs to another driver who would appreciate to drive your car like normal drivers.

Thats more than slightly agressive....

If he wants to learn to drift to show off, let him. Its a free county. Thats why I did. Now, I am not sliding all over the public road, but in the empty parking lot after school, yeah, I might slide around a little.
