Regarding break-in, there's a 2nd theory that says to break it in hard, you can read about how Porsche breaks in their cars. I did it on my STI and even though I only kept it for around 40k I didn't lose any oil or have any issues with it.

FWIW, I think Subaru sells enough WRX/STIs/BRZs to be used to requests around, don't wash it, don't touch it, don't drive it, don't smell it, don't even look at it

My 2017 STI was an ordered car and nobody batted an eye when I gave them similar instructions.

When I rebuilt my engine around 94k miles it was drinking oil. Now I’m at 136k and it’s not drinking a drop. We will see if that lasts. The reasoning behind the hard breakin makes since to me though.

It’s not just Porsche that recommends the hard breakin. If I recall BMW has similar instructions. Basically they recommend you give it heavy loads up to 75% of the rev band. The goal is to create high cylinder pressures without winding it ALL the way out. The high loads push the rings harder against the cylinder sleeves taking advantage of the hash pattern before they wear away. The theory is that if you baby it the hash pattern wears away before the rings get the optimal fit.

Yeah, once I had the 2022 part number I googled that an found this article on Minkara.
I ordered the bolts for the calipers and the wheel bearing based on their recommendation.

We will see how it goes.

I would theorize that auto manufacturers suggest the break in period as a precaution to mass manufacturing. If anything came loose for whatever reason, the nicer you are to the drivetrain, the less likely you are to grenade it before having it checked out under warranty. Gives them a better chance at fixing it for cheaper than replacing severely damaged drivetrain components.

Uhhhh, cross hatching should absolutely not wear away.
