Just a thought...This adapter already has all the pins in the 10-pin connector populated and they are connected from the Male to Female ends. This may be an easier way to build this adapter since you won't need to remove the pins or splice nearly as many wires together: https://www.autoharnesshouse.com/82192_info.html

Yeah, as far as I can see, that specific harness SHOULD work, but the closer I look, you'll still have to de-pin or cut the amplifier turn-on lead from the male plug and you'll have two extra wires coming out of that same plug (the red and the black wires) that will either need to be snipped off at the back sides of their respective pins, or capped off at the ends, and you won't have the standard yellow, blue and orange aftermarket wiring colors, the latter not being much of an issue as long as you're trying to keep everything stock. It WOULD save some time from having to solder or crimp the rest of the wires together, however it's also currently three times the cost of purchasing the two Scosche wire harnesses separately so.........it's a give and take. |

Does this apply just to the Toyotas? I owned an FRS and noticed the sound quality was much better than my current 2018 BRZ. I wonder if this is the same?

easiest way is to lift the trunk liner and have a look at the small amp in the back. If you see this yellow jumper cable plugged into the 10pin plug rather with the 10pin terminal on the amp open, then you will benefit from this but i'm pretty sure this only affected the toyotas that switched to the harman head unit for the android auto

@FR-S2GT86 just installed the harness I seem to only get radio audio but no android auto or Bluetooth not sure what went wrong
I tested all pins for continuity after I finished soldering so it shouldn't be a bad connection

It would be too difficult for me to remote troubleshoot your unit, since I don't even have the Harman unit in my car, all of my equipment is aftermarket. Pictures would help though. Nobody else seems to have any issues so, double check all of your plugs in the rear, double check all of your new adapter harness wires and splices paying attention to the blue amp/antenna turn on leads, or maybe reset your head unit. |

You can always remove the harness from the system and plug your bypass harness back into the amplifier harness in the trunk and see if that returns your lost features.

I'll double check when I get back from work to see if I may have dislodged a cable when pulling the harness out to plug everything in. Android auto works but the usb source for sound and Bluetooth seems to not be working. I'm thinking I accidentally pulled something out

Sounds like you may have inadvertently disconnected (or simply loosened) the 28-pin harness from the back of the head unit, or the plug from the USB/AUX IN connector that runs up from the interface below the head unit to the other connector back behind the head unit. As long as your door speakers are working and balancing properly to the left and right, you've prepped and installed the new harness properly.

Just popping by with update. Something must've wiggled loose cuz I went in the back and made sure everything is plugged in snug then restarted car and wow it is quite a significant difference! Sound is def fuller with much more low range. My quiet exhaust and road noise no longer overpower the speakers inside the cabin just set at 10 if say volume double. 100% a must do fix for those with 2020 Toyota's

Is this a better head unit than the pre Harman unit with this fix in place? Or rather, does the Harman head unit not glitch/skip on bluetooth phone signals like the Pioneers do in the 14 FRS?
Looks quite easy if I buy the harness and the head unit. Quick look on ebay, don't see any head units. Any tips on where to look? Interesting work to gain the system back. Well done. |

@oddrelic @Tcoat @saltywetman 2) You can't just buy the harness, you'll have to build it yourself. 3) Look for some wrecked 2020 86 vehicles in salvage yards, or ask some of the other members around here that have installed aftermarket units into their 2020 models, maybe you'll find one that is willing to part with the Harman unit that they're not using anymore. 4) Thanks. |
