According to @ichitaka05 none of the original Toyota team was involved.

Correct, Tada-san wasn't involved & none of 1st gen engineers are involved in new 86/BRZ (they're retired, quit/fired, or moved to different projects). Technically, new gen spearhead is Subaru team. Of course Toyota/GR engineers are there, but a lot of things are decided by Subaru.
