Vaccine might be more effective for a single strain but natural immunity seems to be more effective on mutations. They are trying to figure out how to make vaccines mimick this better.

My 13 yr old son informed me yesterday that one of his buddies has had Covid twice now.
The first time, the younger of three kids got it at daycare tested positive, and was asymptomatic. Of course the entire family of became infected. I don't know if or how sick the parents got. Then the entire family became reinfected probably not that long after. This time my son's friend did feel sick and I think he's 11 days past his positive test and feeling fine now, but he needs to stay home a few more days. I asked my son if his friend knew that grandpa died from the virus, he said no he wasn't going to bring it up. Probably the best thing so as not to cause stress. But, on the other hand we must all comprehend how important it is to NOT become a vector of infection. I'm ignoring Pilot as well. What better line of work to be a vector of infection.

We Americans tend to be arrogant and dismissive of the accomplishments of others, especially those we consider 'enemies' like Russia and China. That hubris is often unjustified.
I'm certainly no apologist for or fan of repressive regimes, but Russia did launch the Sputnik satellite before the U.S. did (as well as the first probe to the moon, first and only probes to land on Venus, first person in orbit, and a number of other accomplishments). Not bad for a country that was literally bombed into rubble in World War II, and which lost 26 million people, about 1/6 of its population. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...d-from-hitler/ As Lao Tzu wrote in The Art of War: “There is no greater danger than underestimating your opponent.” It usually doesn't work out well. Like, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan... I personally much prefer the Pfizer vaccine I received over the Sputnik, but FWIW, the full clinical results published in The Lancet show it to be credible (of course some of the raw data from Russia could have been altered, but taken on the face of it as published it's comparable to others): https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...234-8/fulltext |

AnalogMan, good post. I have Sun Tsu Art of War on audio CDs and have listened to them many times over the years. It's not the opponent you know, but the one you don't that is the real threat.
On the other hand, it is a treatise to war, which I would avoid at all costs. But then so did China, sparing no expense to build a wall keeping out threatening outsiders. I commented to you before, why do you use the name you use. I am a bit of an LP record collector, so the name sounded relevant to that.

The only way to stop further evolution of the virus is to stop the reproduction of current virus strains. Viruses (and organisms in general) don't mutate without multiplying. ... In other news, my wife and I are scheduled for vaccines this Wednesday. Supposedly a single dose. |

Not too different from where I live. But it pales (or for a long time has paled) compared to Soviet/Russian and Chinese versions. Rewatch Chernobyl. There's a lot to talk about here, but it would unfortunately, almost certainly cross the Rubicon into the minefield of "politics."

Nobody in their right mind should knowingly or otherwise be exposed to this virus.
I'm still ignoring Pilot, but that's a real gem of a comment. Oh well, it's all just talk. Anyway I'm sure there are lots of Pilots among us, hence the reason I have a tiny bubble and am fortunate to be retired for the time being. As long as people remember not to trust putting their wellbeing in the hands of the general public they should be OK.
