Chirp at 70mph

My car doesn't have the usual crickets at idle problem, but it does make a chirp noise when going around 70mph in 6th gear. It isn't very loud so the radio needs to be off to hear it. Once the car is warmed up I hear it every 15-45 seconds, a single chirp sound. Does anyone else have this problem?

Is your A/C on when this is happening? Turn it off and see if the noise goes away. The A/C compressor tweet didn't go away for me with my HPFP replacement.

I know people have been saying it's the AC compressor... I'm not so sure. The AC compressor should not be running if you have the AC button off. It chirps if you just turn on the air or heat as well... To me, I have that same chirp, it appears that the sound is internal. Somewhere in the console area.

I only hear the chirp if the A/C is on.

If it's the AC noise, then you can reproduce the noise at your parking lot.
Keep the gear in neutral, rev the engine to 2k RPM, and turn on and off the AC.
I hear this noise too at any speed. It sounds pretty loud in a covered parking lot.

The defroster is on, so it could be the AC. Has anyone asked the dealer about it?

Yeah, any time the defroster is turned on the air conditioner compressor runs to remove moisture from the air. That is almost certainly what you are hearing.

My dealer insisted it was the direct injection, and that it was a normal noise. After replacing the high pressure fuel pump, however, the noise remains.

I think I am hearing the same noise. Its only under a light load at cruising speed. I feel like its something to do with the intake sound tube. Sounds like a resonance at a certain point. Definitely sounds like a chirp/ringing kind of like a beep. I was able to replicate the sound repeatedly on the highway today. Maybe I'll disconnect the sound tube or block it off and see if it still makes the noise.
I could be completely wrong though.

We must have different issues with the air system... I can make mine chirp just turning the knob from 0 to 1. no defrost or ac on. And it will chirp anywhere between 15-45secs after.

is it like a very high pitched but low winning high sort of sound like right at 70-74mph? not heavy on throttle gotta listen for it but it is there? if so i hear the same thing no idea what it is i thought it would be the trans making the winning noise since its right there and the car has little material since its soo light im not sure i have no driving problems just hear this loud high frequency winning at just those speeds.

Are you referring to this noise? If so, I wouldn't describe it as a chirp. I'm having my differential replaced to hopefully alleviate the noise.

i dont think im having that same issue its just a very high pitched like winning noise at 72-74 just in there no grinding or loud intermittent sounds. just at that speed i need to have someone else hear it i think its from the trans spinning i usually hear it in all gears but its weird . idk
