In this country, most of the time, if a person runs into the back of your car, they are liable.

Oh, BTW, what are those two plugs in the rear bumper of your car .. ??

Anyone .. ??

(my 2013 FR-S doesn't have them)

They are reversing sensors. When I pop my car in reverse the sensor will beep if something is behind. The closer I am to the object the faster it beeps.

In NZ people can have no car insurance at all so the person that hit me doesnt have it.

He can deny being there etc then I will have to provide evidence. He was in a very beat up car and can tell he wouldn't be able to afford. Even so I gave him a call and he chose to ignore my calls. So I will let my insurance handle.

Fingers crossed, if the other person denies liability then there will be a lengthy process.
The black part of the bumper cannot be repaired and will warrant a new bumper cover. It shouldn't be a lengthy process as long as your policy covers uninsured motorist (for Cali anyways). Let me know if you need any help.

Source- I write autobody repairs.

Thanks N1cotine. I am just waiting for insurance to approve the claim. The bumper looks fine other than the two screws of the car plate being obvious but when you look at the bar inside (#16), it is dented in. The bumper is quite soft so I guess that is to be expected. The black bit is warped as well.

So far only the bumper internal bar and bumper needs replacing.

I noticed when you open the trunk, the tail light gap on the left side is larger than the right. I suspect this isn't actually to do with the accident but just Subaru's bad aligning that I just noticed from checking for visible damage.

Edit: Question, will the force of the impact cause any damage where #16 meets the body of the car? I guess the panelbeater won't just ignore it.

P.S. Is panelbeater not a name used where you guys are from?

No worries. Keep in mind the insurance estimate you get will not include everything and will be pretty minimal. The body shop you go to will determine how well the repairs get done.

Optional. It doesn't really work that well with the 86 though. It just beeps at everything because the car is so low. It does help a little, it was an option w/ Toyota.

It's not nice to confuse an old man .......

I have a hard enough time just barely keeping up the, way it is .......

Besides, if they would put real bumpers back on cars, we wouldn't need backup sensors ......

Probably more specifically the sensors for the "collision warning" or movement detection or range sensor for the camera

It could be damaged but they will find out when they pull it apart. If it damaged it shouldn't be a big deal to repair.
And they go by bodyman or metalman here.
