BRZ Hybrid!?

" It's light enough to catapult from 0–60 in roughly 5.7 seconds, according to MSU's best estimate—around one second faster than a normal BRZ shackled to a slushbox. "

I didn't see anyone share this on here so I thought I'd share it with you guys. Tell me what you guys think.

If it's a hybrid is there a way we can keep the manual transmission?

Not with this type of hybrid. This is an electric car with a gasoline generator, meaning there's no clutch and no traditional gearbox.

Honestly this would be my like super long term dream. To do an electric engine swap in like 5 years when the batteries are better and I can afford to play around.

When I first heard about this I was like WTF? Why a BRZ? But then I realized it makes absolute perfect sense. Light weight, super low drag, and already on low rolling resistance tires. I'm curious to see how/if the driving dynamics change with the batteries and all. If it's the same or similar, count me in. A faster BRZ that gets 100+ MPG? Yes, please. I wonder if they kept the AT gearing as well. Perhaps you can swap in the MT gearing and make it even faster, but then again I have no idea about how hybrid gearing and final drive ratios work.

No gearing, per se. Each rear motor has a reduction gear of sorts, and that's it. No shifting, no final drive, no gearshifts.

Wait, I'm confused. The video keeps throwing around the term "hybrid," but it seems like an all-electric car from the looks of it.

Its a hybrid just because theres a gasoline powered generator to recharge the batteries when you need a few extra miles. (I think)
