Spent a couple of hours today on the Lego LEM kit. There's some pretty interesting detail in the kit. They include the fuel tanks (don't shoot the red ones), the camera that shot the first steps, the laser project (which is removable and you can place on the "moon", and the plaque, which if this is accurate was behind the ladder (I did not know that). Last shot shows poor Buzz Aldrin, stranded on the Moon.

I guess Neil figured what who caused those errors on the nav computer after all....

Love the gold bricks for the parts with the reflective mylar film heat shields.

One of the first models I ever built was the old Monogram lunar module back in 1968. If I recall it met with a fiery explosive death during an unreported space race disaster involving gasoline and firecrackers in about 1971.

All done and ready for display. The front of the ascent stage comes off so you can display it with the astronauts at the control. You can also detach the ascent stage and display it separately.

Most of my first ones were around that time. Never did the LEM but as mentioned did build the Saturn V. I had said Revell but now that I think about it, and looked it up, it was a Monogram.

I did build about a dozen paper LEMs given away by Gulf Oil at the time (like this one on eBay)

And the moon is apparently made of riveted battleship gray steel panels...

But I always thought the issue was the flag was fluttering....

Exactly, no fluttering flag.. I can't wait for the Chinese rover, on the dark side of the moon, to pull up to a drive through Maccy D's.. the 'Cube' is a drive through..

Picked up some Perfect Plastic putty. It is water based so you can apply it to joints and then wipe the excess away with a wet cotton bud! Works amazingly for wing roots and 90 degree joints! Saved a ton of time with less sanding. That being said I am REALLY regretting my lazy decision to build the Academy 1/48 F-15 instead of ordering the GWH kit... lesson learned.

How is it for odour? My wife complains bitterly when I use my solvent based stuff.

Well I only can compare it to a few model putties as anymore I use polyester body filler for anything big... or CA glue with an accelerator

But, I almost couldn't tell it had a smell in comparison to the same size tube of tamiya basic white putty (which is pretty similar to squadron white.) Like 1/3'd the odor when sniffing the tube. I'd say because it is water based and you can clean it up before (or after) it dries you would save quite a bit there just by having less product sitting on the kit itself.
