2nd gen vs 1st gen Subaru OEM part numbers - comparison

I've been digging through the suspension parts diagrams for the 2nd gen cars and thought I'd post some notes. Some things are the same, some things are different, some things need more research.

I will do my best to keep this updated and hopefully will have some of these parts in hand soon.

Interesting things so far:
1. New rear top mounts. They MIGHT transfer over just fine but 2nd gen rear top mount part number is not listed as fitting 1st gen. Front top mount is also a new number but is listed as fitting 1st gen. Front upper spring perch is same 1st vs 2nd gen as are the upper spring pad things (front and rear).
2. There are 2 different rear springs listed and I'm not sure why. Both are listed for manual and auto. Not clear if right vs left.
3. New rear lower control arm is a new part number and is NOT listed as fitting 1st gen. The numbers match 2015 to 2020 chassis WRX and STI. They likely will still fit, and aftermarket adjustable arms are generally the same part for WRX/STI and BRZ.
4. Different front control arms, possibly due to new aluminum uprights? Listed as not fitting 1st gen.





Obviously that's not EVERYTHING. Will add more later.

And sorry Toyota folks, I'm just more familiar with the Subaru parts resources. Most parts should cross over from BRZ to GR86 but we do know the springs and swaybars are different.


Please do note that these part numbers may (and often do) change and you should double check before ordering anything online or from your dealership.

Also, I didn't add this but 2nd gen front brake calipers and rotors use same part numbers as 1st gen non-brembo. That was expected, but we wanted to be sure piston sizes or something not obvious didn't change.

Rear calipers are the same as well. Had some trouble with rear rotor part numbers, likely the same though.

I did NOT check any other brake part numbers.

I’d be interested to know if, that even though the front control arm part numbers are different, if they will still fit and be an “upgrade” for the 13-20 cars.

Considering the large and small bushings are the same (ball joints aren’t sold separately anymore iirc), I would guess it would fit.

Someone linked a japanese language post where someone tried to do a front aluminum upright conversion on their 1st gen car and I think they needed the new control arms for some reason. But I can't remember.

Well it’s good to know that someone may have attempted it already. My biggest concern is that the front sub assembly also has the “CC” part designation just like the new control arms, and the control arms bolt to the sub assembly right?

It sucks not knowing if “CC” means the pickup points have changed, or if it’s just a stronger, revised version.

Still debating buying them for the hell of it. I have 170k on my current FLCAs so they are in a different condition than new. I get creaks when they flex.

Looks like the ball joint is mounted more inwards on the new hubs…beginning to doubt the arms are the same.

Also, I wonder if the ball joint shank taper is different for the aluminum. It looks like there is an insert though.

I wonder if the part number for the subframe is different. While the part number is different for the rear LCA i am pretty sure it's the same lenght. So I wonder where the extra .4" of rear track width is coming from.
