Question on front bar for BRZ. Do folks use a stiffer bar to counter the soft springs and use front camber and rebound settings to dial out the understeer the bar added? Or is there other reason for using stiffer bar up front.
Most searches I've done don't talk about rationale for stiffer front bar Thanks Len |

In Solo/autocross all the time is made up in slaloms (in my opinion anyway), and fast transitions. A larger front bar allows you attack slaloms with more confidence (and less overseer) all without killing your sweeper performance.

Like they said stiffer front bar is better in slaloms and transitions. I run a higher rear rebound setting and also front wheel spacers with extended studs(within the rules) on my BRZ to offset the factory understeer. Seems to work pretty well on most courses.

So results are in from El Toro, and ND Miata's cleaned house, taking the top three spots...first time I've seen a car win a national event in C-Street BFG, probably since I won in Peru in 2014 on version 1 Rivals at the match tour. Although spots 1-9 are all within about 1 second per course, longer course for a Pro standard too, (40 seconds in CS).
Who was there? What happened? Are ND's the new God's Chariot? What the hell is up with the 60 ft times....I'm showing as low as a 1.8 60' time on the Turbo MR2...is what accurate? Looks like the best 60' for an FR-S was about a 2.4ish, and ND's coming in around low 2.2's, so still much better than the twins, but maybe not quite as good as the NC's at launch? Any video, and did the course put you on the rev limiter in second gear? http://sololive.scca.com/CS.html

Based on what I've seen from the ND Miatas so far at two rather large courses, the ND may just be God's new chariot

I think my car had the time in it to be in contention. Had some setting shock setting issues that killed my morning runs, as I spent them dialing in the car and took me a while to get back in the saddle.
The staging area was tricky, as there was a slight incline. More than a handful of competitors red lighted due to rolling out of the staging lights just before launch. This was the first event for me with the LED style lights...while it took a couple of practice starts, I got used to it (actually cut a .500 reaction time on Sat! LOL). Many did not like the LED lights and I feel there was a lot more RLs than normal. We had a few mid day showers, so PAX for the event will be off for sure. Not sure if solely due to the rain or the SCCA's new timing system, but there were an insane amount of timing issues and manual starts. Re-runs for people caught who got caught in some of the maddness were almost meaningless, as they would be sitting in grid so long that any heat from their previous runs were long gone and had to go out on bone cold tires. The course was very off-set transitional heavy. While I think the car does approach those type of elements pretty well, I think there were spots where the spacing and speed may have been slightly more beneficial to the ND with its torque. There were about 2-3 spots where I would hit revlimit on my faster runs...possibly some spots where the RX-8 may have had some advantages. |

The weather at El Toro this past weekend makes interpreting the results pretty tricky. Unfortunately AS, BS, and CS got rained on just as we were starting our 2nd Heat on Saturday. So depending on whether you were driving first or second, you'd either have a wet course or dry course. It was a quick enough shower to make it wet and slippery but not soaked. You ended up with a course that was dry during the next group when the 2nd drivers got their runs.
That same thing happened on Heat 3 on Sunday as it had rained overnight. So whoever drove 2nd was with the next group and the dryer course. Besides Heat 1 some people didn't really get any dry runs during Heat 2 or 3. Launching the car in the wet is tricky The course was a bit heavy on the transitions, I think our cars turn in much better but the NDs are narrower so it is hard to say if there was any advantage or disadvantage to either car. Anyway, yes the ND is very quick and those guys drove really well but it doesn't look unbeatable. Sean's co-driver was just two tenths off the winning ND's time for the left side and he drove that course when it was damp. And yeah that MR2 launches very quickly off the line. It does kind of sucks losing over half a second just in the first 60 feet. |

Did you guys notice a big difference in your cars going from OEM to aftermarket drop-in filter?

No, but it makes more intake noise, which I can't really explain. This reminds me, I should check it and see if I need a new one, it's been two years since I installed it...
