Regional anomaly. WA is known to be up tight prudes.
Uhh, WA clubs are quite a bit more hands on. Almost Vegas level. A lot of bachelor parties are trips to Seattle.

He is like that with everything, even his own stuff. I always tell him he is frugal to a fault. For some reason he doesn't equate cheap=low quality. To him cheap=good deal. For someone who was a 20+ year diesel tech he still bought tools from harbor freight. Except air tools and breaker bars that is, he learned with those eventually.

you've got to be talking about one of my uncles.. are you sure we're not related?

most of my dad's tools are harbor freight. it bothers me to no end how they fall apart.

though i will say in the last 2-3 years harbor freight has stepped up their game significantly on all fronts and even their screwdrivers are way better than they used to be.

Well that's good to know. I stopped using the set I bought 4 years ago when I TTY'ed a flathead trying to remove a screw... the first time I used it...

I still wouldn’t buy their screw drivers or bits. Wrenches are not too bad. Sockets are okay but a bit on the thick side. I only try to by six point sockets from them. I don’t trust the 12’s on really tight fasteners.

Do they not have different quality levels? We don't have them here but even our most basic place (Princess Auto) has garbage tools, mediocre tools and good tools. People buy the crap and complain about the quality but when you point out they have better levels they either say they cost to much or they are all crap.

My brother (a millwright) has bought almost all of tools exclusively from Canadian Tire. Think most of them are the Maximum line, some are DeWalt, depending on what was on sale the day he went. Zero complaints out of him from those two lines. Amazing how far CT has come with their in house brand.

Most of my tools, personal and work use, are also MasterCraft. For the amount of use they get, mid tier is good enough for me, and it's likely that I won't need to replace them any time soon.

Oh they still have their total crap line for those that think they are saving money though.

They do on some of their tools. Most hand tools are branded under “Pittsburgh” down here and are off similar quality. I like nice ratchets and screwdrivers though so I always buy nice ones.

My dad is like that. He will buy cheap laminate flooring for our rentals even though it takes 3 times as long to install. Last time we worked on a rental he bought the cheapest drain kit he could find for this sink we replaced. Took him easily 3+ hours of messing with it to get it to stop leaking I gave him shit for a while about how if he was paying himself 10/hr he could have bought the most expensive one and still had money left over for beer
Welp, maybe dads are just like that -

For example, a few years back when I remodeled out house, I bought two new toilets. Yep, the made in China ones were half the price, so I bought two and installed them. About two years later the one in the girls bathroom started leaking, so, I replaced it (thinking if failed just because the girls were using it as a jump off place to get to the sink) with a twice as expensive one made in the USA.

About a year ago, the cheap one in our bathroom cracked and started leaking. So, I bought a twice as expensive one and put it in the garage - to be installed shortly. @Ultramaroon most likely saw it in the garage and wondered why it was there -

Anyway, I fixed the leak with plumbers putty and taped up the crack in the seat with duck tape. Good enough? mrs humfrz thought not - so, Monday, I'm going to replace it - or ask my off work son-in-law to replace it -

END OF DAD STORY

Yup, I remember. Didn't think too hard. Beats storing it in the kitchen.
