Another one here, registered just to post this and keep tabs on the issue. Original owner of a babied daily-driver. No mods. No redlining. Sad thing is that I am looking to trade in for another vehicle, and this thing broke just before I considered making the switch. I was really happy with the car otherwise.
Vehicle Mileage: 70000 km Vehicle Make: 2013 FR-S 6MT Mileage After Recall Performed: 3000km. Recall done in February. Engine broke mid-June Symptom(s): Knocking/rattling at RPMs above 2K Failure: Bearing in cylinder #4 State: Ontario, Canada Is Dealership Offering Repair: Dealer is looking for used engine to quote a replacement, but not paying for repair. Toyota Canada refusing as well. Wondering if there are any steps beyond complaining and raising hell. Really disappointed in Toyota customer relations... Quote:

Car is out of warranty, not much more detail other than the bearing failure. I don't remember the km, all the papers are in the car unfortunately. I'd guess 500km. Dealership is in Kitchener-Waterloo area. |

Does Canada not provide a warranty on the engine work related to the recall? The US gets 1 year/12,000 miles.

Parts warranty covers the parts that were replaced. Beyond that, it is on the dealer to make things right. Poor workmanship (sealant is the pan, low/high oil, leaks) are not warranty repairs. We know the bearings did not simply fail, the work done to the car caused them to fail. Knowing that, and getting someone to pay, are two different things. |

Yes and no. Their standard policy is 4 years but they have been known to make exceptions under certain condition. This may be one of the conditions they would look at. Worth the call if you haven't already.

Mmkay, I'll give it a go. Probably have to fish out an e-mail address or something that bypasses their online claim form. |

Think there is a phone number. I personally know of at least one person that had them assist with an issue on a 6 year old car. It was a similar circumstance where some recall work caused an issue. That was a few years back though so maybe they are more strict now.

Also, it looks like my car did about 3000km before taking a crap, according to the dealer. I should note that my driving pattern has been home -> daycare -> work, work -> daycare -> home, with ten minute stop-n-go trips to each stop. That possibly extended the life of the bearing, allowing it to cool down while parked at daycare. Saw crap in my oil pickup mesh as well |
