Lay off does not qualify as vacation time in my books! Unless of course you made so much money that the off time doesn't matter in which case I am jealous.

Right now I have 17 days of use-or-lose leave that I need to burn off, which is a lot more difficult than it would seem. I'm in charge of a two person section that has a constantly busy workload and performs a critical need for my organization, and I earn 2.5 days a month. So I keep building more and more leave that I don't have time to take.


Oh, and in a few months I won't be able to take any for six months, so that's 15 more days of leave earned that I need to take.

The only reason I'm down to only 17 days of use-or-lose is because I just took a month off.

Not a layoff. It's banked OT hours.

Edit: if I didn't bank the hours, i could probably afford to not work in the winter. But I like having money coming in every week

They have to shut down over the winter; it's Canada. The entire country goes into hibernation and waits for spring.

Kind of shut down. There's odd jobs around the office and other departments need help sometimes. But I'd rather take time off than drive 1000ish km every week that either gets put on the truck (taxable) or on the car (wear and tear)

Yes and no. Because I'm working so late into the year now, I have no idea what my schedule is like at this point.

My boss just called me today and told me I'm flying out to Edmonton tomorrow to work a project until 16 or 17 December, then I have a couple weeks of doing equipment inventory and getting stuff sent out for repair and calibration.

Oh I remember my time in the pen! Was rough. It changed me for a bit.
