Is this something to be concerned about?
Noticed this after jacking my car up due to a flat tire… is this bad?
Getting the tire patched up tomorrow, Is it ok to leave the car jacked up like this over night or should I put the tire back on and use the rear jack point? I am assuming I should probably bend it back after… Last edited by Nick.brz; 06-26-2022 at 05:35 PM. |

Not safe to leave it lifted with a hydraulic jack. Stand would be fine. If you choose to straighten it, make sure you never bend it again. Jacking this car from the side is a challenge.

I wish these car manufacturers would make these side jacking points a bit more sturdy than just a indicator cutout in the vertical bended steel portion. seems like failure/damage is more likely to happen using a hydraulic jack than the oem provided scissor jack.

The important thing to remember is that the pinch weld rail is there just to locate the jacking point - the actual structural weight bearing point is on the car itself. After seeing what some other cars use for jacking points (both flat rails as well as brackets) I still prefer a pinch weld as it is much easier to locate and a proper saddle has less change of slipping. |

Which wheel are you working on? Jacking on the seam to lift just one wheel shouldn't cause a problem. With that jack, positioning in the middle of the car would be a nono. Was your jack able to roll as you lifted the car?

I was working on the back right wheel, did not have access to a low profile jack and had limited space in the front and back as it was not in my garage. ended up jacking at the front right jack point since the jack did not fit under the back right jack point. I slowly lifted the car but frame still ended up bending. ended up just putting a spare on and will stay away from the side jack points.

Nothing like taking the end of the car up 24"s to barely get the wheel off the road while the whole thing is resting on a base the size of a couple of playing cards.

I've seen quite a bit of this on older cars that have been racked up for oil changes, services etc. Cars are usually lifted on the drip edges.

This is how I use jack stands, never had a problem (second picture the jack could be a bit more to the left).

I've considered that but I worry that it could slip. Even though the side load on the stand is small, it's there. There's no "saddle."
