Probably the last gen available without electric motors too.

Perhaps the last gen that has a steering wheel.

The STi RA was sold with a carbon fiber roof and they only sold 500 units

They sold a bazillion other versions of the WRX/STi though to cover the costs.
The RA was also roasted by the press as too much money for to little improvements so they are not likely to do that again.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made it a trim level. They keep saying they want to push STI in the USA, and that would be the easiest way to do it. Aren't there several vehicles in Japan that have ts trim levels?

Makes sense. Economy is really good and people have more disposable income to spend on spoilers and stripes. Subaru is probably enjoying great margins too.

I see the same situation with the Nismo version of the 370z. Why bother replacing it when the tooling is all paid for and people are shelling out $45K+ for a 10 year old car?

The tS was offered in different years for the Japanese domestic market. There were differences between the the two runs, mostly in color scheme, and they took part of the optional GT package (wing, black wheels, Recaro seats) from the first run, and made it standard on the later run minus the big wing.

My speculation is that if it's coming back, there will be differences between the 2018 and 2020 to differentiate them. If it becomes a regular production model, it may be closer to the Australian tS or JDM STI sport, as the giant carbon wing may be too polarizing for a larger production run.
I'll be very unhappy though if it's exactly like my tS except available in red, grey, or silver, which are colors I would have chosen if they were available, haha.

My money would be on tS model displacing PP option as a non-limited release. Possibly drop the big wing to make it more mass marketable.

"In the world of performance cars, the phrase “Tuned by STI” is the stuff of legend. Now, the legend grows with the introduction of the 2018 Subaru BRZ tS, a new track-tuned, limited-edition model. In the development process, Subaru engineers were challenged to improve upon the original BRZ — no small feat. But they succeeded. The tS features heightened performance levels in key areas — increased control, improved stability and great flexibility — thus creating more sheer fun behind the wheel. But the fun won’t last. Once the 2018 Subaru BRZ tS is gone, it’s gone forever."

Torque News can be pretty accurate. Actually the Product Training and Development team regularly cite Torque News in our internal news feed...

Honestly the 2018 tS didn't sell very well. So if I were to guess they'd probably make about 250, and may do without the carbon wing.

Really they are just doing something for the BRZ to go along with the S209. There's still some STI parts that exist in the JDM parts bin that could be added, but not really expecting anything big...

Same was done on the JDM tS. There were 500 units on the first version and 300 units on the second version. The first version had a wing as an option (GT package) and the second version didn't have a wing at all. About parts, I wouldn't expect anything big either. Maybe it could have a better quality suspension instead of Sachs. An option could be Bilstein which exists in the STI parts bin. Another change could be the addition of side air vents similar to the ones of S209.
