Got a call from the dealer saying they have multiple parts to fix "cricket noise", lets see what happens. I put in a claim for this problem a couple months ago and they told me by late january they should have a soultion and sure enough they did. Lets hope this works.

When mine was done I saw the parts list (warranty cost $1,600 P&L). The TSB requires multiple parts to be replaced, I don't think they are doing anything that hasn't already been done to fix the noise.

I dropped off the car and I was told there was three parts that were getting replaced and it is the first time that it'll be done. I'm not sure to what extent by ima say in the South Bay area in ca. I'll keep you guys updated and give the part number to what was replaced. I am aware this is an experiment in a way but won't hurt to try.

I recently got my car serviced (two days ago to be exact) for the cricket noise contributed by the fuel pump. The Toyota dealership I went to were reluctant to authorize the service at first because "it doesn't fix the issue; eventually the noise will come back over time."

Apparently it costs Toyota $1800 to swap out the fuel pump with the parts so they had to get "authorization" first. By the end of the day, they replaced it and so far I don't hear it when idling or cruising. Whether it's a temporary or permanent fix, it feels great not having to hear that chirp for the time being.

That's inviting news. I just got a call saying they're gonna take more then one day, also that they were replacing the valve springs and cover. So looks like more then a fuel pump issue like the other members mentioned.

I'm contemplating headers so I don't have to listen to it anymore...

That or strapping some sound deadening material to the pump.

You know what!?
Of all the crap I have read about crickets on here (adding oil to the gas, changing pumps, using XXX gas only, voodoo witch doctor, alien technology, etc, etc) I don't recall anybody trying a simple sound deadening technique! Not saying it isn't here someplace I just don't think I have read it and since I have probably read 70% of the threads that means something to me. Now I am sure there will shortly be 20 links to the subject but I would be interested in knowing if that could work.

Well I mean, it was Toyota doing the insulation, not a rogue dealership/owner and they quickly abandoned it...

Got the car back last night. Took longer then I expec to get it fixed. Apparently they had to order more parts besides what was already ordered on Friday. So ima up load the work order with exact parts that were changed. It's a big list from fuel lines to valves and of course the pump. So far so good and no noise in the engine bay. Drove it home and to work about an hour commute both ways. I use 91 ocante and live in Southern California.

Here's the list:

why is this thread still alive...there is no fix yet for the crickets. lucas fuel injector cleaner and or a replaced HPFP at the dealer both cause the noise to go away for 100-300 miles at a time then the noise just comes right back.
