Mirror Tap for Radar Detector DIY (BRZ Gen II)
*for auto-dimming mirror*
I did the mirror tap for my radar detector today and it was fairly easy. Here's some tips for anyone wants to do the same: step 1: remove plastic cover hiding the cables step 2: disconnect electrical plug step 3: remove T20 torx screw holding mirror in bracket step 4: slide mirror up from the mirror mount to detach step 5: identify red and brown cables on the mirror side of the plug step 6: connect your mirror tap wires red to red, black to brown (I taped one of the metal connectors because they were too close to each other) step 7: reconnect the mirror plug and test your radar detector. step 8: route the wires in a way that once you install the mirror, the plastic cover fits over the cables Here I opted to route the mirror tap wire through the opening in the middle and along where the mirror slides into its mount, otherwise the cables would be bent at too much of an angle. step 9: reinstall mirror, it will still operate your garage opener if pre-configured Optional: get a radar detector mirror mount for a clean install There is a clip that attaches to the mirror stem to hide the wire, but I opted to keep it out so my mirror mount would fit. These are the parts I used: Mirror plug wires - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097MGX318 Radar detector mount (find the one for your radar) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0063N7OZ2 Last edited by C R; 01-22-2022 at 10:56 AM. |

I found the brown wire to be the ground wire. Where did you get the info to use the yellow wire?

Fixed it. The yellow wire seems to be for the mirror dimmer since the radar would shut off when using reverse.

That must be with the upgraded mirror as an accessory, does it auto-dim too?

Yes, it's the auto-dimming mirror. I'll update the post to reflect that too.

Did you consider tapping the top plug rather than the mirror side? I think there's an install thread somewhere doing that instead so that the mirror doesn't need to be removed for the install.
