LED Door Courtesy Light install
Vaaaroom
I am trying to install LED Door Courtesy lights, but not sure where to start. I am sure it should be easy, just take a bit of time to run the wire and install the LED light in the doors. |

Maybe I need to plan this out more or understand it in detail.
I create a list of things needed and how to approach it, just not clear at the moment. I seen some LED lights on eBay that are pre-done for you. However some are saying if you use a white LED on the side doors you could get a fine? |

so of you want the existing red light on the door to light up following that video. the only difference would be installing a 12 volt led bulb inside the existing light housing. yes I would use a white bulb. the lens is red so it will shine red. I would take the door card out before you start to see what you will need to do to properly install a bulb in the housing. It should be easy because on some cars it really does have a bulb in it. the only other thing I would do different from the video is I would run the wires behind the plastic and have them come out near the light. I would buy a male and female two pin socket and wire it so you can unplug the light when you remove the door card just like a factory install would be.
I may do this mod to my car. |

Hey,
The only issue about running the wire is I got carbon sound systems door deading material in the inner side and outside of the door. I wold have to try and remove it carefully, but not easy since its very sticky stuff. I am looking into where I can get a 12 volt LED light socket or buy a new lense with socket. Door trigger ground method is a better solution than running a wire to the cabin light. Any idea where I might find a 12volt socket to connect the LED bulb to? |

the bulb and socket is easy. my guess is it will be a T10 bulb and socket. a search on ebay shows thousands. As I said, I would pull one of the door cards off and look at the light housing. that will give you a good idea what you have to work with. as far as the sound deadening, you don't have to run the wires behind it. you could just use tape to hold the wires in place. |

why would you not use the light housing that is already installed? It's already there and fits perfect. Oh I see, this is just a white version. It will be easy enough to change if you don't like it. besides you can use the stock one as your test fitting. if you use that light it will solve the bulb problem but you will need the socket that fits it. |

right, you would have to do a small amount of modification. I would have to see it, but it would probably be just drilling a hole to mount the bulb socket in. they make a kit for cars in the states that adds a bulb to the triangle fog light in the back. you drill a hole in the fixture where the bulb would be mounted and the bulb socket twists into place in the hole. I installed one in my car at one time. so it would be something similar. also leds are so reliable that even if it was a semi permanent mount (like hot glue) that wouldn't be a problem. just make sure the bulb does not touch anything inside. the fixture so it would look right and not melt anything. again, we would need the pull the door card and take a look at it to see what it would take to do it. |

I found this, he made a reflector but I don't really think it's necessary. I would have used metal duct work tape if I thought it was.
Also while searching a found out that if you short out the power that he was tapping into in the video, you could fry the computer. kinda scary. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36983 |

Hey,
My reflectors are basically like one in that post, so maybe the sockets will fit? $6 for this socket : Seems all I need now is wire strippers and some electronic wire (certain length) |
