Not bad really. In the photo above, it is dirty. It's been through several commutes in the rain, and has been parked outside for two weeks without a bath. You can see it up close obviously, but still looks good from the 15 foot view.

Lake Lure, NC
Over the weekend I had the opportunity to drive up to the NC mountains and hit several of my favorite spots under the pretense of taking my son to his summer job in Montreat, NC.
First stop on the way back was Lake Lure, NC. Lake Lure is a manmade lake not too far from Asheville, NC. When I was a child growing up in NC, my family would always stop in this area for lunch on our trips to visit our relatives in KY. This is before I-40 and I-75 bypassed all these locations for travelers. A shame as far as I'm concerned. Nearly all of you have seen the Lake. It was used for filming "Dirty Dancing", "Last of the Mohicans" and several other movies. "Dirty Dancing" was filmed at an old boys camp that has since burned down. When they filmed the movie it was late Fall, early Winter and they had to glue/paint leaves on some of the trees. Also, the water was near freezing. Anyway, if you are ever zipping up I-40, its well worth the 1 hour detour to check it out, and the nearby Chimney Rock Village (see below). |

Chimney Rock, NC
Chimney Rock, just up the street from Lake Lure, is an impressive monolith that has been a tourist attaction for almost 100 years. It, and the surrounding mountains that include some great hiking trails, waterfalls and fabulous views are now a NC state park. Until very recently it was all privately held land and attraction.
The 315 granite monolith can be seen at the top of the photo. The park was closed right before I arrived so I was not able to drive up for a closer picture. The village at the base of the mountain has your typical trinkets from mountain villages. When I was a kid, this stop always netted me a "genuine" rubber tomohawk or head-dress, or sometimes a pop gun or two. |

FR-S Visits the Bat Cave
OK, fine, Bat Cave, NC, is not THE Bat Cave but growing up and passing through here in the 60's I always expected to see Adam West driving by in the Batmobile.
Unfortunately, the actual cave, which is the home to several variety of bats and is the largest granite fissure cave in North America, is not open to the public so this is as close as you can get. Somebody queue up the theme song! Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na,, na, na, na, na, Batman! Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, Batman! Batman, Batman, Batman! Also, not to far from here up the Chimney Rock Parkway is the Eastern Continental Divide. Unfortunately there was a sign but no place to pull over on this heavily traveled road. Hopefully some lucky FR-S owner in the area can get a picture of that and post it. |

@Dadhawk @AtlantaRock, I've been to those spots!
Seeing the cars in these natural habitats really captures them beautifully. Track events are fun, blasting through the desert is fun, but I have a special place in my heart for photos taken in the mountains of north GA, western NC, east TN. |
