There is no bottom right and bottom center. There are only 3 wires, Right, Center, Left. Green Goes to Ground (which is the center wire). The wire you want to connect Red to is the 12V Accessory (which is the black with white stripe). The remaining wire (which people seem to mistakingly tapping power to), is also black, but that goes to the reverse switch. These mirrors are set up so that when you put the car in reverse, the auto dimming feature turns off, so that it's easy to reverse even in the dark.

Didn't read this whole thread, but did someone point out that he says not to invert his directions, but then posted 2 pics of the connector, and one of it being held upside down? Someone can easily mess this up.

I just purchased a Uniden R3 from PCMag's store. The 15% off coupon code PCMAG15 is good until 3/15. https://shop.pcmag.com/products/unid...r-detector-gps It comes with a dual suction cup mount and the larger single suction cup mount. I don't trust any suction cup mount; and the dual suction cup mount turns the R3 into a booblehead. Even after cleaning with IPA I have had my large Garmin suction cup mount fall off. The suction cup mounts also make the RD highly visible to thieves.
I thought about getting a Blendmount and a mirror tap but ~$120. for both is a bit much, and the rd is still visible. Since there' a 12V accessory socket behind the glove box I decided to go with a visor mount and a 6' straight power cord tucked behind the roof liner and routed down the right side column. Drop the glove box down the same way as you would do to change the cabin filter. I watched the video here on this install but decided to route mine another way to give my 6' cable more slack. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...30&postcount=7 What I thought would be a 15 minute job ended up being ~1 hour. I purchased a Radenso visor mount that will fit the R3 if you shave a little bit off of the front clip so it snaps into the R3. I used my Dremel on low speed with a medium grit sanding drum bit. I purchased the mount from here, free 2 day UPS shipping: https://www.cartoys.com/radenso-xpvm# I purchased the 6' power cord from here:http://www.bestradardetectors.net/6F...Detectors.html You can get one for an Escort or Beltronic RD from eBay for a few bucks less that will work with the R3 but they use smaller gauge wires and a cheap RJ11 connector. The side panel, as shown in the video, is attached by upper and lower plastic fasteners and can be easily pulled outward. I removed the side panel by turning the top green fastener sideways with a pair of needle nose pliers. The panel slides up and out. I tried to route the cable up through the rear hole but had to resort to using a wire snake to pull it up. I bought this one a few years ago to snake a coax cable through an outer wall to an outside TV antenna. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commerci...T-15/301776000 I routed the cable up the inside of the panel and tucked it under the roof liner. It fit with just a little slack to spare. If I had routed it like in the video it would have been too short. I re-attached the green T fastener, pushed the panel back down in to its slots and snapped it into place. The R3 is almost totally hidden from view, very secure, no cutting or splicing wires, and there is enough cable slack to pull the visor down. Also check out Vortex's recommended settings and reviews for the Uniden R1 and R3: https://www.vortexradar.com/2017/06/...den-r1-and-r3/ Last edited by RickyBobby; 03-16-2019 at 09:34 AM. |

I'm hoping to purchase a Uniden R7 once it's released (I think next month?) and I'm still debating between a setup closer to what you have, or mounting it under the rear view mirror with the Blendmount. Decisions, decisions. The R7 is a bit larger, so all the more reason to maybe skip the Blendmount mounting method.

$599.99 for the R7 is a bit much for me. You can pre-order from Buydig.

Cheapest I found the Escort Max 360C is $599.95 here: https://www.radarbusters.com/Escort-...rt-max360c.htm Check eBay also for used ones.
Read this first, and the Uniden R7 will soon be out: https://www.vortexradar.com/2017/12/...cort-max-360c/ |
