So how Rich are you tunes, specifically soot build up?
I'm tuned on OFT with Shiv. Yes....I know EcuTek is probably with way to go...got it...and I plan on going that route this year. I already had the OFT and figured I give it a try with a plan to switch to EcuTek at some point. I initially had not planned on FI. I have a lot a soot build up on the back of the car. On startup, sometimes with the moisture in the exhaust, it will spit some black soot out on ground, leaving something to clean up. Realizing that the rich tune is on the safe side, and I'm okay with that, but after about 10K miles, it just seems a little too much on the rich side based on the soot alone. With a white car its even more obvious. The car has run very well and I've had no issues and have driven several autocross's. The only hiccup it can encounter is if I inadvertently load the engine up by getting on the throttle at low rpm in too high of gear. I will occasionally get a hiccup or hesitation at 2.5K rpm. I avoid driving like this, bogging the engine, since it not good anyway, but sometimes it happens. I did about 9 revisions on the tune with Shiv and mentioned how rich it seemed. In the end, he said everything looked about perfect. My Mazdaspeed 3 was pretty rich, but this has that beat. So tell me about your soot or lack there of. |

So I ran into another issue, the jrsc pcv valve is too small to run on the raidum can. Is there another pcv that people use to replace it?

I installed the radium catch can with the jrsc pcv valve and having no issues. Same diameter hoses for both but my kit is also about 4 years old. You can skip the jrsc valve if you install the wrx pcv valve instead.

I used worm clamps and it appears to hold the over-pressure well. As it turns out, I only did this recently. Before I was using a Uline check valve that was discussed in another post I found on this forum long ago and in a Galaxy far, far away. I would say search on Uline PCV, but your results will likely be hit or miss. Anyway, if you find it and think you want to use it, I can report that it appears to have done the job well before I swapped over to the JR-provided check valve.

I plan on getting this kit. How much power will I be leaving on the table if I go stock header + CARB tune instead of ACE header + custom tune?
If there's not a huge power difference, I'll just go stock header + CARB because I want to take the most reliable, proven, low-maintenance route possible. I also don't like the idea of making multiple visits to a local tuner to troubleshoot issues. I'll only ever run pump gas (93 here in VA), BTW. Shining the @CSG Mike bat signal!

Dang it that’s a lot. I don’t know man, tuning just makes me nervous. I’ll have to find someone in my area who I trust not to screw it up.

Just let Zach at CSG handle your tune. He's great to deal with and has done hundreds of JRSC FA20. He tuned my SC setup as well a bunch of others here. 100% would recommend. |
