Thicker oils don't protect better, that's true, but all oils have friction modifiers added, and the friction modifiers are very important, especially in manual transmissions.

I'm planning on doing Motylgear 75w90 Technosynthese for both.
Its rated as safe for yellow metals in the trans, and (per my understanding) since our LSDs do not utilize clutches, friction modifiers are not needed and regular gear oil is fine. Also my buddy gets tons of this stuff for free. |

motul gear 300 for both. I know a few shops that use it for both. I emailed motul and they replied saying it was safe for use in our transmission with yellow metals.
