Lets talk weight

I think people have been guessing much larger figures than what this car will actually be.

This is the Miata vs MKII

Now the MKII is 166.7 inches, and we know the production BRZ will be 165 inches, so even closer to the Miata.

According to wikipedia, the MX-5 weighs 2,410 lbs. Since is it a convertible can we not assume there has been weight added for frame reinforcements?

Why can this car not be under 2600lbs?

When you design a car as a convertible, you don't have to fatten it up with frame reinforcements (from removing a roof).

I'm all for low weight, but if it has to be fat I hope it feels light on its feet.

Convertibles DO require frame reinforcements, and typically they weigh 200 lbs more than non-convertibles. Also, isn't this car gonna have seats in the back right? About 100 lbs extra right there. Depending on the type of suspension, it will weigh more. I remember seeing double wishbone. Double wishbone weighs a good bit compared to other suspensions, but improves handling by a lot.

If it's just a small 2+2 pseudo seat, it's probably nowhere near 100 lbs. But they should be easily removed for a slight weight cut. It'll have MacStruts in the front and double wishbones in the rear.

If I had to really guess, I'd say MAX weight will be 2700 lbs. There is just no reason it should weigh more than that.

When did you become such a smartass? I kid I kid.

The Celica has nothing in common with the FR-S/BRZ.

I just know that the 2012 Impreza is 2950lbs and the Coupe is going to be lighter. Dunno what else to say .

that only makes sense if you make a car and then turn it into a convertible. mazda is and has always been very concerned about weight and i dont think toyota will be able to close in on that the first run through.

aside from that i bet toyota sticks some huge wheels on the thing too. its not going to be under 2600lbs and the current miata weighs more than the 24xx mentioned earlier
