The car has both a oil pressure switch and a oil temperature sensor just in front of and below the oil filter.
I believe the one on the left with a single wire going to it is the oil pressure switch. I would imagine you can probably take that one out and install T or Y junction and then bolt the original switch as well as your aftermarket sensor to the junction. I plan to pick up a dual gauge (oil temperature and oil pressure) once somebody comes out with a good looking gauge pod. |

So when I am ready to install Oil Temp gauge, which one should I Tee up?
Left or right? (I saw @getbent said you should tap to the one on the left, just want to confirm). Also, anyone know what size fitting is needed? Links? Pictures? Thanks! Edit: @onemorelap where did you end up connecting and using what? (Longshot since he has not logged in since August.. but who knows!) @PrimeMotoring @Rev Works may be able to help too.

I just want the vent pod.
The one on the left is the idiot light oil pressure switch. It is 1/8 BSPT or PT. You usually do not want to screw a tee directly into the block, a lot of guys will use an extension hose. |

Thanks to @Supermassive for the pics!
I believe this is a GREAT location for the Oil Temp gauge sensor. Thoughts anyone? @PrimeMotoring @Rev Works @Dave-ROR @P&L Motorsports @Pure Automotive

On the FBM kit I used a 3 way junction at the factory oil sensor on the front of the motor. I think the reason they used that for the turbo feed is because the coolant lines for the turbo run under the intake pipe where that port is. I would either use that port or run off a sandwich plate in combination with an oil cooler.

Is that a standard Subaru oil gallery plug in the pic, if so it would be a good place to tap for oil pressure. It is what most Subaru guys do on th EJ engines since there is an extra unused plug. You just buy the oil pressures switch plug which has a 1/8 PT hole in it to replace the solid plug.
Again I would not use a Tee screwed into the front ports, those things have a tendency to crack under repeated stress without much support. You can even buy this one which is threaded for NPT and not BSPT. Depends on the gauges and send unit you are using. http://www.fastwrx.com/oilgalleryplug.html Or just get the whole relocation kit since the pressure senders are usually pretty large. http://www.fastwrx.com/reoilprsekit.html This Tee I would see working but it's expensive http://www.nissport.com/catalog/prod...e=Applications Last edited by xwd; 01-26-2013 at 02:20 PM. |
