Tire Width vs Wheel Width

When I get my FR-S I'm planning on going with a Five:AD S5:F wheel.
http://www.fivead.net/wheels/s5-f-1.html

The same wheels on the Five Axis car.

It seems like the only 18 inch option that have is 8in wide so it looks like I'll have to do that. But I honestly want a wide enough tire because anything less than 265 is a joke compared to what I've been running in the past. However, I don't want to sacrifice the looks of the wheels either with a tire that is hanging over the side of the edge. So I'm trying to find a good balance of looks/performance from this wheel. How does a 255/35/18 tire sound for an 8 inch wide wheel?

Keep in mind the FR-S is over half a TON (1100lbs) lighter than your Camaro. You don't need a lot of tire to keep it stuck to the ground. 255s will look pinched on an 8" rim. If you want to minimize pinch, go with 245/35-18s, which will also preserve the original rolling diameter better than the 255s. Those will be plenty for grip, especially if you go with a sticky Extreme Performance tire.

Hmmmmmmm, I want this to be future proof too though, because I'll be going with a turbo and that will require a wider tire. I may just need to find a different wheel and get a 9 incher with 275/35/XX.

We're running 265s on the WRX 17x8" (on a WRX) wide wheel and while its a bit pinched, its not terrible and this is for autox use. FWIW, I tried to mount a 255/35/18 on a 18x7.5 and it couldn't even be mounted and would have been very pinched. So ideal for you will be around 245 max if pinching bothers you that much.

Hmmmm, maybe 255 but def 245 would be easy. Those tires look like my rear tires on my Camaro lol. 305's on 9in wheel.

I have 245/40 on 17x8 on my MRS. Its the widest I would run. 235/40 is ideal for 8" wheels but 245 is pretty good.

I understand competitive autoX with wheel width restrictions is a different situation.

I just wish they would've made this damn wheel in a 9" option. I'd slap 255's on it and call it a day.

See this topic/thread for pics of a 9" wheel with 255's to get an idea of the look:

Uh, there are PLENTY of 18x8s out there. Just keep looking. If you're worried about actually driving the car go with something that's a bit lighter and more durable.

Enkei RP01, RP03, RPF1
Anything by Gramlight
Not sure how the Rotary Forged wheels from TSW are, but I'm picking up a set of 18x8 +35s to use until my Enkeis are done.

Oh I don't think I mentioned that I ONLY want these wheels......
And the options are 18x8 then 19x8.5 then 19x9 and up from there.

I wish this was in 18x9. 19 is too much for a low powered car such as this. Even if I manage to get 260whp out of it.

I sent them an email, maybe we'll be able to work something out. I know ADV1 has these very similar wheels but they are 3-4 times the price. So..... PASS.
