I had a friend with a 2.5RS which blew out a timing pulley. The valves hit the pistons and we found the STEM of an intake valve in the exhaust manifold. Considering how much confetti there was in your "event", it's worth giving the turbo a look-see to be 100% sure it didn't try to ingest anything.

That said, please think twice about putting a turbocharger right after the stock header. ESPECIALLY that cat which isn't rated to withstand the kinds of heat a turbocharged setup produces.

Every STS turbo car puts the turbo after the cat. I've never heard of a cat failure being ingested by the turbine. Not to say it doesn't happen, but I would bet it's a rare scenario.

And how far away is the turbocharger from the cat in sts systems? Visualize the glowing hot turbine housing and merge collectors when the car is ran hard. Then visualize a cat right next to that. Not a good recipe. I would ask tuners and motor builders to chime in here.

I'm not really sure what the catalyst temp would be in comparison, but this is likely the culprit. But I do know that the sts systems do create quite a bit of backpressure. Perhaps EGTs should be looked at carefully to ensure the cat stays happy. But generally with a ceramic substrate catalyst the engine starts to melt before the cat falls apart... unless that catalyst has been overheated by running too rich of mixtures or burning oil.

Some cars do. My old mazdaspeed miata had one between the head and the turbo iirc. Early (u.s. model) wrxs had them in the uppipe as well.

I think the clutch pictures are a bit telling, some amount of torture occured before this motor blew, wasnt just an easy drive home from the dealer and suddenly motor went bang with just mild driving - NO SIR

Reading the thread where FRS300 stated he blew his engine would help you even more than the pictures. OP never stated or tried to imply it was an "easy drive from the dealer and motor went boom with mild driving"......

I was not aware of anyone running a motor with lower compression pistons yet. I think there was a guy in Texas with an Accelerated kit that was putting pistons in, but I haven't seen him post recently. Full Blown is waiting to blow theirs up to install pistons. I have definitely considered just swapping in lower compression pistsons and rods to get some more power.

I have a local customer with the low compression CP's and a set of Pauter rods running an AP turbo kit with a GTX3071. 18psi is low boost now.
