The first 100 miles will consist of burning off and removing all those contaminants using the heat of the exhaust, it is a perfectly normal occurrence. It will also smell terrible for those first 100 miles too.

When I mentioned packing material inside the exhaust i did not mean 'packaging' material. I meant the fiberglass packing that is often used in the muffler as a noise reduction material.

The only way to remove the packing material inside a muffler is to cut it open. this fiber glass packing is very common in motorcycle exhausts.

never knew they packed auto mufflers the same way. must be different in some ways cause motorcycle packing is made to be replaced

^ it depends on the muffler and the packing inside the auto exhausts is generally made of a different material. As far as I know all OEM auto exhausts have no packing.

usually it is only the straight through auto mufflers that have packing. (hard to call these types a muffler)

now that I think about it the TRD muffler might very well not have packing inside. but the oils from manufacturing will make smoke too, but I would think that the smoke from oils would burn off very quickly (like 5-10 minutes of being at operating temp) as opposed to the smoke caused by packing.

Yeah, this is totally normal. It is the filling inside the muffler that smokes.

my question is, is it really normal for new exhausts to smoke like I dont have oil, AND it smelled like burning plastic...

My thoughts are an idiot mechanic didn't take out some of the bubble wrapping.. help.
Vids please. Still deciding if i should wait fir this or get the evo3
