Sooooooooo......if I were to do this and then wanted to remove it would it, would it just be sanding it down and applying a clear coat on it again?

We tried to do this exact mod, and the paint/preparation work ended up making the tail lights crack.

Can you confirm you did not get any spidering/cracks through your lenses at all, even after a few days?

Thanks in advance
The only thing that I can think of is that you used something more corrosive than mineral spirits when you cleaned the lights? I have had absolutely no ill effects from this mod.

I screwed up a pair of tails from a different car (non-Toyota) and wiped the tails down with lacquer thinner with no ill effects. The plastic seemed fine after I removed the paint. Of course, it could deteriorate the plastic and cause future issues. I repainted that set and then promptly sold the car, so I will never know.

Is anyone familiar with the Plasti dip Glossifier? I'm wondering if it has the same characteristics as plasti dip, where you can just peel it off once you don't want it anymore. If so I might just get some of that and spray the tail lights then coat it with the liquid tint thing.....hmmmmm interesting!

Thanks for this DIY, Darren! I'm picking up a lot of stuff from you and I won't even have a car for months! Will just have to decide down the road whether to get an overlay or painting it like you did.

Didn't realize Toyotas had JDM spiders as well! Didn't believe it existed and thought it was like "blinker fluid," something the old hands told clueless new guys about, until I saw it in my '09.

I think red on red would not look as good as black tails on red.

I need Firestorm FR-S rears for the chops

I picked up the red "VHT Nightshades" paint today and am trying this mod out. I already have a light dust coat on. I'll apply two or three more coats as needed. Photos soon!
Update: They're drying, but lookin' good! That's 3 light and one medium coat... Will install tomorrow.
