Oh NOW a tldr is acceptable to Snuff. Assuming that is meant as irony so I won’t answer.

Was there a tune added? Or is the claim removing this part adds this amount of HP. It seems a little hard to believe.
No tune, just 'theoretically' the stock ECU adjusting to (marginally) increased airflow..

Wouldn't it be TL;DW? You ignored my question in an attempt to have a "gotcha."

It doesn't take nearly 15 minutes to show two dyno pulls.

I don't understand why wanting objective evidence is so offensive to some.

The evidence is there if you want it, not my job to convince you.

Everywhere I've read so far, nobody's found a way to tune the ECU (maybe I'm wrong, hopefully I'm wrong). I've also heard about YouTubers' cars not running very well off camera. Will I remove the tissue from the car's nostrils? ehh... I need a larger sample size before I do it to my own car.

There’s probably a chance if you had engine issues, Subaru could deny fault over it. Personal decision to be made there.

I would assume the YouTubers issues are associated more with running full catless exhausts without a tune over a slight increase in airflow. Edit: do consider according to previous post, the JDM version does not include the pad at all from factory.

Another thing to consider is if you go buy whatever aftermarket intake at $300+ that may claim 7hp increase; 5 of that could be coming from the effective removal of this. Maybe making it not worth time or money to some.

Ecutek is close apparently.

They've posted on the other forum that shall not be named.

I found this on another 86 forum. Seems like for you guys that NEED EPA devices for your annual inspections, you probably shouldn't remove it. I know California definitely requires it, and I think NY is on its way too (if not already)

Although California does require it, smog isnt required for 8 years from the date of purchase of a brand new vehicle in California.
unless you get caught with a state referee ticket, youre safe for 8 years.

even if you do get caught with a state referee ticket, you can purchase the half airbox piece for like $65 last i checked. shove it in the corner of your garage until the day you need to smog it, and toss it on at that point.

as far as performance and the car running poorly. I ripped mine out and it's been driving perfectly fine.
Youre gonna get issues from people who are running UEL headers.. something the car/ECM was absolutely not designed to run with by any means. Hell some people are even running small amounts of e85 for god knows what reason.

it will likely void warranty if the warranty reason can be linked to removing this filter. for ex: if a suspension components fails under warranty period, it cant be linked to removing this filter, therefore nothing is void

it wont pass california visual inspection during smog(assuming the smog tech actually checks)

Just cut the charcoal filter out and use the frame as a spacer. No need to change the whole box.
Doubt there is really 10hp to be had but may get a couple out of it.
Not going to "void" any warranty unless they can prove that having it there caused the issue. Be pretty tough sell on their part.
Won't need a tune and it won't cause the engine to run poorly. It just isn't a big enough change to have that much affect. Same as using any aftermarket drop in. Of course a tune will make things "better" but you could likely get the same results from tuning with it in place. Stock tunes are never the best since they need to compromise for fuel economy and emissions.
This whole thing is much ado about nothing really.
