I usually sit at around 3500rpm in 6th gear on 401/407 hwy when im doing 110-115kph. I actually prefer the rpm above 3000 as anything below it, it just bogs down when I give gas and realize that I have to downshift to bring revs up to make some power.

Continuous 4000rpm won't harm these engine, once the engine is at its optimum running temp. These motors like to rev and only thing that would get affected in your gas mileage.

Just FYI.

4.3 FD, 4k RPM = 89 MPH = 4.1 FD, 3.85k RPM
4.3 FD, 4.2k RPM = 93 MPH = 4.1 FD, 93 MPH

On the highway, my logic goes:

6th for cruising
5th for hills/getting around SUVs
4th for quick passing

Yeah thanks, but early reply was jist to take in consideration cuz he have the late model with shorter FD.

I disagree with that, load is a not insignificant factor.

Point is, he's going pretty damn fast for North American roads.

4k rpm in 6th is a pretty good ticket I think, I'm usually at 3.7k.
I'm usually moving with the traffic lol.. And even at those speeds I'm still getting people passing me at a good lick wtf

I don't understand why people would assume 4k is unsafe or causes abnormal wear. OP, if you are worried about drag-racing, "you bought the wrong car".

I'm not assuming, I am suspecting and asking questions. Instead of being a wise ass, why don't you explain why cruising at 4K instead of 3K won't have any ill long-term effects. And I haven't once dragged this car from a red light.

4000 rpm? That's barely 80mph, which is par for the course on most interstates. And load is certainly a factor with wear, but in this case there's not going to be a significant difference, if he's just maintaining cruise speed. Towing, accelerating, etc are a different story.

No one said anything about it being unsafe, or being abnormal. His wear at a constant 4000rpm will be higher than if he was at 2000rpm. His motor is covering twice the distance for a given mileage driven by the car itself. Nothing abnormal about that at all.

I don't know why everybody is assuming you're in 6th gear. I cruise in 5th at 4k+ quite a lot.

In any case, I don't think 4k RPM is enough to cause excessive wear to anything.
