If you check out the brochure for the 2016 Legacy, you'll find there are now three trim levels for that model: a PlainJane, a Premium, and a Limited. The Premium offers quite a bit more standard equipment than it used to.

You get an analog clock when you buy a modern Lexus (and if it's LC500 then it better be a Grand Seiko quartz).

The less fancy stuff the car has the less it weighs I guess. The only steering wheel control I want is the horn and maybe cruise control.

Honda was smart with the S2000 by putting the controls around the dash on the driver side instead, rendering steering wheel controls unnecessary.
I remember looking at that cruise lever and thinking "what is this 1986?". Then after using it I totally fell in love with it and that is important since I use it a lot! It just sits perfectly where my hand falls. My last 3 cars with it on the wheel always felt awkward and I had to look to see which button I was pushing every single time. That old school lever is one of my favorite features in the car.

I am 100% behind you on this. My last two Lancers had all the bells and whistles and I used none of them anyway.

This my first new car, all my previous vehicles were older muscle cars, with the newest being a 2002 Camaro SS. Had no tech in any of the interiors and I had a blast in every one

Same. My Eclipse has this style and it's so nice since I don't have to keep my hands high. I was happy to see that they used it on this car (and kept it for the facelift). Tokai Rika is the one who makes this style cruise control unit, BTW.

LOL I had 4 cars with vacuum powered windshield wipers, manual chokes, tube radios and three on the tree standard transmissions. I have no need for gadgets.

I did learn to drive on a Chevy pickup with manual steering and brakes and three on the tree standard transmission, but tube radios and manual chokes?

You ARE old...

My first car, an E36 had it just like the BRZ, and it was perfect and intuitive. Only difference is it was on the column so it didn't move with the wheel. That was slightly better.

I first came across such a cruise control 3rd stalk with VW/Audi/Porsche. I also think this design is brilliant.

The worst design imo is to have the cruise control on the steering wheel spoke itself.

I also notice that with Japanese cars the cruise control tends to be on the right, and with German cars on the left, most likely due to their native countries being RHD and LHD respectively. Must be a lot of money to make it RHD or LHD specific.

I'm actually surprised the new twin doesn't come with a sunroof or full leather interior option to go with its upscaling agenda, and maybe add a lumber support too while at it.

Vacuum powered wipers! How I remember trying to pass a truck in the rain! You'd pull into the passing lane, floor it, and the wipers would stop. You learned to lift your foot off the gas to get one wipe and then floor it again. Floor, lift, floor, lift, as many times as it took to somehow see enough to avoid a head-on. It was blood-curdling.

Certain gadgets have become sine qua non and you wonder how you ever survived without them. The radio antenna with the electric motor which extended the antenna when you turned the radio on, and retracted it when you turned it off, not so much. Those were the days!

I like the bumper and headlights. I'd keep the old wheel if I could. I also like fewer buttons and gadgets on a car like this.

Even that car should have had steering wheel radio controls.

But that's still the coolest thing to me these days whenever I hop into the old Lexus, turn the ignition key and watch the antenna automatically go up from the passenger side mirror.

Just missing the pop up headlights.

two gadgets that I appreciate are power windows (passenger side) and mirrors. I had neither in my Z so adjusting the passenger side mirror was a bit of a pain.
