I really hope they make a truck with a propperly strong transmission that just so happens to fit the fa20.

Yes, that's why I didn't quote that picture but got really excited about the second one which looks at most 5 feet tall unless those are 30" wheels, realistically this would translate to a ~6' vehicle, tiny by today's truck standards when you consider a Toyobaru is ~52" and a standard sedan is ~60". If that A-BAT concept becomes a reality the only competition it will have is the Honda Ridgeline, why would you try to take a bite at competition that barely sells 20k units?

Looking at the truck segment it really only makes sense to either slot something in under the Taco and move it a bit more upmarket (higher quality, updated drivetrain) which should hopefully steal sales from the Frontier, the smaller 2 door American pickups, and growing hatch market while bringing in buyers to check out the more capable Taco/Tundra, or replace the Taco with a new model or significant update. Either way can work but the only thing that would bring me into the showroom would be the specs like I imagined above.

back to reality.

According to this source the Daihatsu Copen may be sold as a Scion in the US.

Daihatsu Copen to be resurrected - report

Quote:
To rival modern Honda Beat

A recent report says Daihatsu plans on bringing back to life the Copen in the near future.

A couple of days ago we saw Honda’s S660 concept which serves as a preview for a modern Beat due in Japan in 2015. Now, British media is reporting Daihatsu plans to resurrect the Copen and thus recreate the Beat vs. Copen comparisons even though the production years of the two models never collided. Daihatsu did show a D-R Concept at last year’s Indonesian Motor Show which could indicate the production model’s styling approach.

While the original model was a kei car, it is not known whether its modern successor will fit this category which requires (as of October 1, 1998) vehicles be up to 3.4 meters long and 1.48 meters wide, while the engine must have a 660cc capacity and a maximum output of 64 HP (47 kW).

There are some rumors suggesting the Honda Beat will be sold outside Japan with a larger engine, leading us to believe Daihatsu could sell the model in other markets as well, such as United States where it could be badged as a Scion since Toyota has a majority stake in Daihatsu.

A small inexpensive roadster could provide some cheap thrills. Copen could take the xD's place.

Rumor has it the Tacoma and the Hilux will finally cross paths and merge together for the next generation (Taco still sells well, hardly any competition but its long in the tooth), since they pretty much capture the same market, except Taco is primarily north America and Hilux is everywhere else, and they are almost completely different trucks.

Not sure if its getting a downsize though, or its continuing on at its current size.

I thought the A-bat concept was a little bit smaller than the Tacoma?

Rumors have it the Copen will take place of slow selling iQ.

Correct, the A Bat length is 181.3 inches. The regular cab Tacoma comes in at 190.4.

Car industry refresh is like the difference between the 2011 and 2012 Tacoma. Changed front end and interior. Redesign is the 04-05 with new frame, motors, teams and everything else.

Major redesign - no radical change in the brands philosophy = new xB + new tC

Both are years behind new product releases. Original plan was redesign every 4 years with a single refresh after 2 years.

Do you have an article that backs what you are saying? Or is this just what you think?

Edit, just realized we are just interpreting the article differently.

If it helps, I was heavily involved in launching the brand 9 years ago (second wave). I served on their 'round table' and USED to have the inside track on all things Scion. Once Alex Sun left Central Atlantic Toyota for the west coast, district manager level support vanished. With 5 years as a Toyota/Scion rep, I learned their lingo. I'm no longer with the company, so I'm just weighing in based upon my experience. Hope it helps.

Scion Lineup to Include Sedan, New 5-Door Hatchback

Quote:
Toyota’s struggling Scion brand will soon get some much needed new product, with an insider confirming a new hatchback will be added to the lineup as well as a product the brand has never before offered, a sedan.

The hatchback, AutoGuide has learned, is likely to be a version of the Toyota Auris. In many ways this function-focused hatchback will be a spiritual successor to the Toyota Matrix.

The second generation Auris was introduced to the European and Japanese markets in 2013 and is available with all-wheel drive as an option.

Perhaps more surprising is the addition of a conventional sedan to the youth-focused brand’s lineup. That car will actually be based on the upcoming next-gen Mazda2 platform.

Past reports have indicated the next-generation Yaris will also be based off the Mazda2 and will even use a Mazda engine. Production of the next-generation Mazda2 will begin at the company’s new plant in Salamanca, Mexico in mid-2015.

Our source also confirmed that there are more new products in the pipeline beyond those, with continued rumors pointing towards a small crossover. A convertible version of the FR-S has also long been reported to be in the pipeline.

Scion execs have repeatedly been clear that new Scion models will not necessarily be a replacement of a current model but could be entirely new products while older nameplates, like the xB or xD could be shelved entirely.

The first of the new Scion models is expected to make its debut at the LA Auto Show in November.
