I have saved the grey boot file though in the data/local directory with "grey" on the end so I can choose it easily if I want. That ES file explorer app is excellent BTW. I was using a different file manager but got ES so I could follow your instructions to the letter and it is far better. Thanks heaps!

Ok @GreenPants you thought I was asking dumb questions but here's the dumbest so far!
Android is new to me! How do I move icons from one home screen to another. I knew to tap and hold to shift an icon to a new home page but how do I shift an icon from say page two to page 1???

As far as I know (there can be subtle differences between Android platforms), you just drag it to the side and the screen should switch, allowing you to move it between screens. It may be tricky on our devices if we can't get close enough to the edge.
Otherwise, if that doesn't work, delete the icon and re-add after you switch screen. To add an App shortcut to the homescreen, go to the applications screen and click-hold the app you want. The homescreen will appear and you get to drop it where you want. |

Although you can't install it from the Play store, there are write-ups on how to do it manually - and it's prime for direct inclusion into system.img. |

Sounds cool @GreenPants although that will mean I have to go through the whole root process again or can you just copy in a new system file?
Also, do you recommend titanium backup or if I have a problem would I just run the root files again and reinstall the apps - like I have just done? I had titanium backup on there but of course the contents have been wiped after rooting again. As I don't store any data on it really I wonder if a backup is worth using up the space on the internal SDcard. BTW the TomTom app doesn't seem that good. Keeps turning my music off and seems to error if linked to the NAVI button. Runs ok from the app icon but then problem with music. Sygic seems much more compatible. Sygic seems to have a registration key, not sure what tat unlocks and can't see anywhere on the play store where you can purchase a registration key - any ideas? Was good practice re-rooting it as now I feel much more comfortable. Have a really cool grey TRD86 from a little place called New Zealand as my wallpaper now too!

Do you also have a problem with it turning the music/radio off from the front speakers until you turn the TomTom sound off and then it turning off the music all together? Just doesn't seem a very stable app. Disappointing as I like my TomTom.

Not sure whether to keep trying it or switch back to Sygic. @GreenPants why do you think TomTom won't run when assigned to the NAVI button?

There's a similar discussion regarding GPS apps on the OUKU thread over on xda-developers. |

You have two selections (I hope to remember right): A) Primary of tomtom, you must tap low right corner and a volume bar opens B) TomTom settings , where set which audio channel must use (front, rear or other). I tried several times to assign panel key with no positive result.

Are you finding the TomTom app any good compared to an actual TomTom unit?

I think I will stick with Sygic but leave TomTom on there since I paid for the full app and will leave the maps on there in case I need them. So, I'm done now pending any "updates" from @GreenPants!
