Thought of that, but haven't been able to test it yet.

Did pop the SIM into the modem that came with unit. No joy there either.

A word of warning about Kogan. I email support a week or two ago. Still waiting for more than the auto response.

Once I put this micro SD card into my T7019A head unit do I simply run the apk file from there or do I copy all the files into a directory called on the internal SDcard called Tomtom and run it from there?

Just don't want to st*ff this up!

Thanks for your help!
Thanks for your help @Trap63

I now have TomTom NZ working but can't find the maps. I copied both directories to a directory called TomTom on the internal SDcard but still no luck. What files do I have to copy and where to so that the maps I have work

At the moment I have two subdirectories off the TomTom directory. Do I need to copy them out of the subdirectories?

When TomTom installed it should have made a folder called "files" in the TomTom folder. U replace that folder with the folder called "files" from the download

I have tested my spare ES-388 V2.0 Bluetooth USB dongle and it works @pheoxs and will put it in the mail to you. No use sitting on my shelf doing nothing.

Hopefully it will work for you when you receive it. Merry early Christmas!

Hello everyone! I know, I have a ton of Android head unit threads, but none were dedicated to the Ca-Fi knock off.

First and foremost, I would like to give a shout out to Hal9k from XDA-Developers for coming up with a very simple, flashable, root. Props to you if you ever see this thread.

Secondly, IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR HEAD UNIT. I am merely sharing what my experience was and how it worked for me. There is always a risk (even if small). Use at your own risk.

Now with that out of the way, here is the head unit I am using:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Android-6-2-...50942959362%26

It is very similar to the Ca-Fi unit, with the following differences:
  • Resistive touch screen in stead of capacitive. (I've seen one with capacitive released once)
  • No "pretty" ca-fi apps for FM, Music, iPod. There are apps provided for these functions, but they aren't as pretty.
  • These have Live Wallpapers. The Ca-Fi, for some reason, does not.
  • PRICE!. Ca-Fi wants 999$, these can be had for 350$ shipped.
  • Up until now, Torque. Ca-Fi does allow you to use a USB OBD2 adapter, where as this is stuck with bluetooth... I am going to try to work with Hal or some other XDA developers on getting the USB API implemented.
  • The LEDs are blue, instead of Red or Green. Anyone handy with a soldering iron can fix that.
  • These come with Sygic nav, which is actually pretty damn good. Ca-Fi doesn't come with navigation.

Now let's get to the good part. Hal9K has made a set of update files for the MCU and firmware. You will need the following:
  • 2GB (or larger) MicroSD card formatted in FAT32.
  • A computer that can put files on said MicroSD.
  • A bluetooth USB adapter. List of compatible ones here
  • A USB splitter hub.
  • A Torque compatible OBD2 Bluetooth adapter. I used this.
  • A bluetooth management app. I used this.

K, now onto the steps to make it happen.
  1. Format the SD card in FAT32.
  2. Copy the files from Hal's RAR file here (mirror, mirror 2) to the root of the SD card. If you have a capacitive version of the unit, use the u-boot-skip.bin.capacitive and rename it without the ".capacitive".
  3. Insert the SD card into the right SD slot of the head unit.
  4. Hold "Menu" and press & hold the volume knob. After a few seconds, you will see the update screen. Let it do its business, it will reboot automatically.
  5. Calibrate your touch screen.
  6. Go into Settings -> General -> MCU update. Click OK. Let it do it's thing. It will reboot.
  7. Plug in your USB hub with the WiFi dongle and bluetooth dongle.
  8. Install the bluetooth manager app and Torque.
  9. Open the app and turn bluetooth on. Connect the OBD2 scanner as you normally would.
  10. Setup the OBD2 scanner in Torque. You're now done. :-)

NOTES

This will reset your head unit to factory settings.

RECOMMENDATIONS

If you already have a rooted android device, download all the apps you plan on loading. Use a backup tool to backup the APKs to the device's storage. Copy the apks to the SD card under a folder like "Apps" or something. It's easier to side load them using Settings -> Applications -> Install from SD card on the head unit. If that isn't an option, you will have to set up WiFi and your Google Play account to download the apps.

Here is a video of the result.

I have a copy of the Ca-Fi and the Chinese units system images. I'm going to see if I can reverse engineer the interfaces and APIs it uses to control the iPod and FM. Maybe then I can create a prettier app to use.

Again props to Hal9K for all his work on making this happen.
Hey guys, I know this thread has come a long ways, but I need to come full circle and ask for some help. I apparently updated the MCU and successfully re-installed navigation and other third party apps, but it doesn't appear to be rooted. There is still no bluetooth functionality. My main thing is wanting to run Torque. I have both usb and bluetooth OBDII adapters. Thanks in advance!
PS I have the exact same unit as in the first post

No offence, but I'll go through the basics just in case you are missing something.

Do you have android super user icon when you go into apps? If you do then it is rooted.

Have you plugged in a bluetooth dongle? Might seem a silly question but I thought bluetooth would be internal initially and didn't realise you needed one. Bluetooth dongle neds to be compatible. See my post here for some that are readily available http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=828

Try an app like quick bluetooth or similar to check whether you can turn bluetooth on.

Then, as mentioned earlier make sure the dongle is plugged in before turning the unit on. Also, try it directly plugged into the rear USB cable, not with a hub.

You can use it for additional storage, music etc. Also use it to load apps using apk files.

Beware the right micro SD slot - on my unit it is just a hole and the micro SD card will disappear into your unit. On mine the left micro USB is the only slot that actually is a micro SD slot.

I have a 32GB one in there but actually use USB for music storage.

I don't have any super user icon so I guess the root failed. I copied the file to a blank sd card, ran the update on startup, and it said success in like one second. then I ran MCU update, clicked ok. nothing happened that I could see. I installed a bluetooth widget that takes you right to the bt settings. I click "turn bluetooth on" and it just flashes once quick. Yes, the bluetooth dongle was in the rear cable at startup.

I guess I'll just have to keep using torque on my Android smartphone for my trip to VA tomorrow

Apparently some models come with it on the left, and some on the right. Mine is on right. The labeled one is the only one you can use. The other will eat your card, I've heard

T7019A, my left side has the actual slot, right side is just an empty hole that leads into the head unit and bye bye forever.

Also I tested it and my rear USB does NOT work at all for data it seems. My phone will charge from it, but the USB wifi adapter will not work. It works fine on the front though.

I've tried booting with it plugged in, plugging in after booted, reflashing the rom, etc. Going to try and download the rooted rom again from a different source and try one last attempt to get this thing working.
