Arrow Weighted oem leather shift knob -- any interest??

Hello ft86club. New to the forums but not to the 86 platform. Owner since 2014. I also own a wrx sti.

Iv been lurking around the forums for some time now as a guest, but recently came up with an idea and wanted to share it here, and finally signed up.

With that said... so iv been playing with the idea of turning an oem factory shift knob to a massive weighted version while retaining factory look

I can produce one with a target weight of 400-500 grams.

The goal is to have a factory looking interior with a heavier weighted knob.

There are a lot of aftermarket weighted knobs already in the maket, mostly made out of aluminum. But to me, it kills the interior. (Personal preference)

Im the type that wants a fresh factory interior. Thats why im doing this product

Let me know your thoughts. If i get a lot of interest, i will go ahead and move on with the project.

I am also open not only for frs/brz knobs but also the wrx which is very similar design. The wrx has a nice looking red inlay instead of the black. I can make one just exactly like the wrx but with the Reverse pattern to the left so it fits our cars

Im opening a poll to see what weights people prefer

Thanks for your input

Example of the wrx knob. Fits our cars but Reverse is on the right.

I will be able to put the Rerverse on the left so it fits our cars gearing

And yeah fully weighted between 400-500 grams

I would be interested as I've been waiting for one that is leather wrapped. I love the one that I have, just have to deal with the temperature fluctuations. 400-500 grams would be a good target.

I would absolutely love to have a weighted version of my TRD shift knob. 500g is perfect in my opinion.

I switched out the stock knob for a Perrin I got at one of the shop sales.
I didn't like the stitching, but that's only personal preference.

After seeing this thread I decided to add some weight to my shift knob without cutting into it or altering it.

Inside the knob I dropped a small 4.5 gram weight that goes in my computer mouse. It's not much but dropped in for a perfect fit. So perfect it's stuck forever lol so it's not a fuck up, it's a MOD.

There's some slack between the knob and the reverse lockout, so you can slip something over the shaft of the shifter and slide it down to the plastic of the lockout. I took a side post battery lead diesel spacer, reamed out the middle with a hammer, a 5/8 size 3/8 socket and a tapered 6mm 1/2 socket. The spacer slipped over the shaft very snug but fits in the notch of the reverse lockout perfectly. It's not 400 grams (I figure it added 120ish grams to the stock 198), but it was easy and free. The knob sticks up a tad more than before.

Nice!! You got pics?

Although im confused with the numbers. So you dropped in 4.5 grams of weight inside

Then at the end it added 120 grams? Ish

Wow, the forum ate my post.... Here goes a second time!

My orig post was a bit confusing, sorry.

I am not going to get a pic of the weight on the shaft of the shifter, he threads on the shift knob are plastic and I abused them a little trying different things. But there's a pic of the shifter now, raised a little

In the knob itself has a 4.5G weight inside it, jammed in.

On the shaft of the shifter I slipped over a lead diesel spacer like this one that I had to ream out and widen a bit. But it fits perfectly over the shaft and in the reverse lockout notch. That weight is about 100g-120g or so. I'm not sure TBH, I can't find a weight on those things.

I'd buy one that was 270 grams with that red face. Could we send in our own shift knobs as donors?
