Installing Headers w/ a jack & stands
How difficult is the installation of Headers if you just have a jack & jack stands (I have these stands, http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-h...nds-38846.html)? Is there enough room to get the headers out or does it require jacking up the engine?
Debating whether or not I should take it to a shop or do it myself. I'm in cali so I'll eventually have to put OEM headers back on for smog kinda why I want to do it myself but I don't want it to be a big pain in the arse. That being said any tips for the install, or stuff to look out for? Only thing I read that was a beyotch were the 02 Sensors & the nuts on the overpipe, I've heard of some people snapping the studs off on their OEM headers. Its honestly not that bad. Installed my header (tomei uel) and a buddys (JDL) and it was pretty easy...the only thing that is a pain in the ass is making sure that you tighten the nuts all the way down...I know it seems like a straight forward thing, but make sure you go over each one like 3 times and get it to where you can't turn the wrench anymore

I installed headers over pipe and mid pipe using 4 jakstands. It is cozy but really works well. Once the under panel is removed the header is very accessible. Take your time and it should go smoothly.

Definitely doable. One of the nuts on the header is a PITA but you should be able to do it with the right tools.

easy as long as you know how to turn a wrench. just need extensions and everything else should come off without and issues.
be careful about over tightening o2 sensors and watch the wires, but that shouldn't be a big deal, just felt like it was one of the more fragile parts. I'd do overpipe at the same time if you haven't already since its already there but thats just me. |

I broke a stud on my OEM overpipe, once I broke the first stud I soaked all the other exhaust related bolts in pb blaster and they came off easy. Also when you install the o2 sensors put some anti seize on the threads, so you won't have issues later when you have to put the stock header back on. I did my full exhaust with two Jack stands and a floor Jack. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish.

took me about 2 hours and 45 minutes to do mine in my driveway with jack and stands. two of those hours i was waiting for ups to drop off my headers haha. i used a torque wrench to tighten them all down. easiest way is to remove the over pipe as well

I did mine. Not that bad. Didn't remove overpipe but did snap a stud off the stock header.

OP, the header install is easy unless it's UEL. You will want a flex socket adapter to reach one of the nuts successfully. Flare wrench sockets work great for this too. Otherwise, it's straightforward and easy on harbor freight jacks. Exactly what I used for my JDL UEL. |

It was easy for me as well. One thing to look out for is the studs attached to header - overpipe connection. Studs are attached on header side. You'll have to wiggle the overpipe and possibly unbolt some rear exhaust bolts to move over pipe, so you can remove OEM header with studs on it. Other than that, it's very easy. Be care on the last bolt, so header doesn't fall on your face!
