I drove something very similar in the early 90s at Sears Point. A company was promoting cars for club racing. It had the same configuration: Suzuki bike motor and built with as many common car auto store parts as possible. I remember they were selling them with trailer and 2 sets of tires for a hair over $10k. It was a kick to drive.

Also, if you are taking it to an airshow, say in Florida, and you live in Oregon, you'll likely get there faster by trailering it.

![]() I have a running joke with Mrs. Ultra about her not letting me have a helicopter. It's on my Christmas list every year. I'd have to drop a hundred pounds before I could fly a Skeeter anyhow. ...I'd do it for that.

Cost to run even something cheap is why years ago I never even bothered finishing a NASA TT build with my Miata (and I had already done a killer suspension/brake set up). I figured based on HPDE usage, and this was 10+ years ago when stuff, including track time, was much cheaper. I would be around $800-1000 per weekend.
Which didn't include entry fees, gas/maintenance for tow a rig, food/water (I can't do the greasy burger and fries if the track has a little cafe), etc. Even amateur racing is a rich mans game. And now I'm too fat and lazy to spend so much time in the garage properly maintaining a track car. Although I am getting a hankering for another project.

I think I got the most notes on my old Jeep Gladiator pickups years ago. I was tempted just to put a "not for sale" sign in the window.

It all seems like the perfect Catch22. By the time I can afford to do this, my skills development is long past and my ongoing skills degrade with age. When I could do it well with the hope of getting good, I couldn't afford to do it. It all makes me so sad. ![]() |
