hey guys, im a college student and im looking to buy a turbocharged 2013 subaru brz from my friend. He bought the car from a guy in texas who had all the work done professionally(parts list at the bottom). My problem is, as a college student I cant really afford to drive a car getting 15 16 mpg on 93, and I need somewhere around the 20 to 25 range. What do I need to get this done?

The two things you want are mutually exclusive, a turbo car will make good power but drink fuel, a car that gets 25mpg will be simple bolt ons and tuned at best. My untuned car with catback and intake get ~26 mpg in my daily driving around Vegas.

Would going from 1050x to say like 500 injectors and tuning make a difference or no.

TLDR: No changing injector has nothing to do with fuel economy. Btw What is your car history? Do you have any experience with sport cars? Why do you specifically want a turbocharged car? What is your budget you are working with and what is the monthly amout you will be able to afford for expenses for the car? Can you afford to buy a new motor if this one blows up? |

My experience with cars is just starting out. Id like to say iv learned alot from lurking on forums and watching videos. Me and my friend have been working and fixing his car since he got it. I can put as much money needed for maintanence and other things. I can afford a new motor, I do not think I will need to though. The one in the car is fully built. Forged internals, block all of that. Its not that I want a turbocharged car specifically, its just me and my buddy have had time with this, and since he has to get rid of it, hed rather it go to me than someone random. Plus I dont have to deal with any crap from buying off facebook marketplace. Id really like some help deiciding how to fix my problem tho. |

If you want good fuel efficiency in one of these cars buy a stock one, put on Verus under panels, put a lower final drive in it and drive it like a grandma. It would be entertaining to see what difference that would make. |

From you statement do not buy the car. Look for an un-molested car to purchase.
Remember cars are like Women and Busses, another one will be by every 15 minutes. |

Keep it out of boost when you can
![]() Boosted guys I know are still getting decent mileage cruising.

What im gonna end up doing is probably get the car tuned to like 260 280 hp on 93 and j see where it goes from there. Not looking to get like insane mileage, just looking to average like 20 both. Should be doable, I just gotta find a tuner near me lol.

I foresee a "My car is broke and I can't afford to fix it" thread in the future.
That thing will never down tune enough get better mileage without running the real risk of breaking something.

Detuning the maximum output of the engine doesn't change the fuel consumption when you aren't WOT. You can optimize the tune to be more efficient at lower throttle but it's going to suck to drive.
The problem here is the engine itself and the turbo parts have been built in a way that is specifically not efficient when off boost. Pressure at TDC = combustion efficiency. The problem with the turbo is it makes pressure by cramming more air in, which means you need more fuel or you will get crazy early detonation which would destroy your internals. NA engines make pressure with higher compression ratios so you don't need to cram as much air in.
