Looking to bench test a Instrument cluster
I did some work to a test instrument cluster and want to test the part before I put it back in a car. I was browsing through the schematics for the 2013s, and haven't found anything yet.
I was curious if anyone had already figured this out yet. I searched the forums and what I found is mostly just LED swap jobs and re installations. I will keep looking through the schematics, and if I find it I will update here. |

Maybe a silly question, but why not test in the car? You don't need to put it back in, just hookup the connector to it.
I would imagine a test bench would need to supply much more than just 12V to get anything meaningful from the cluster. |

I haven't taken mine out of the car yet. I wanted to do quick ops check, without swapping them out. My ESD workbench isn't at home so I just wanted to test while I worked it.
I have a programmable Power supply that can support this, I have used it for much larger projects. |

I'm pretty sure you'll want the Combination Meter, starting at page 326 here: https://www.ft86club.com/files/BRZwiringi.pdf. That would be connector D7, a straightforward 2 row 40 pin connector. Looks like it's mostly controlled via CAN, so not sure how easy it would be to get it working outside of the vehicle.
Good luck, though! |

Thanks I'll check that out. I really just need power, shouldn't need any of the signals.

Hello, bumping this old thread because it pops up on a google search, I was able to bench test my cluster with just a 12V input.
This will illuminate all the bulbs (lamp check mode) and displays (along with showing cluster mileage) You need to do the following; Pin 1 - Input 12V Pin 2- IGN Pin 20 - GND Bridge pin 1 & 2 with +12v When looking at the back of the cluster (round side to the sky), pin 1 is the very top right, pin two is the next pin to the left of that (top row). Pin 20 (ground) in the very top left pin. Hope this helps others. |
