As someone who is leaning more towards the second-gen BRZ, hearing that it behaves like the first-gen and they wouldn’t buy it while the GR86 “feels faster” pissed me off. I’m already ticked that the BRZ doesn’t display exact oil temp numbers like the GR86. Now I’m gonna have to hunt down a 2022 BRZ on Turo to make sure it’s power delivery is as good as the GR86 I drove. I wanna call BS on that segment, but hopefully at some point I can compare both of them for myself.

I currently own a 2018 BRZ and a 2022 BRZ (drive them back to back regularly). I would disagree with some parts of the review. The steering feel and weight of the 2018 BRZ is better and way heavier than the 2022. The 2022 is super light in comparison although on track I don't mind it at all. The throttle pedal in the 2018 BRZ is tuned just like the 2022 GR86. Push the gas pedal down 40% strength and the engine gets 100% power. The 2022 BRZ push the gas pedal down 40% strength and the engine gets 40% power, its really that simple. When I jump in the 2022 BRZ from driving the 2018 I have to recalibrate my foot as the throttle mapping is way different. I have driven the 2022 gr86 and my 2022 BRZ back to back and can say that when you give the gas pedal 100% throttle on both cars they pull the exact same. Hope this helps. |

Turning the Traction Control off, or switching to Sport mode changes the throttle mapping on Gen 1 BRZs. So in this test video, was the BRZ tested with all aids on? Or did they turn them off?

Where did you learn this? I don't recall there being any difference in throttle mapping. Just TCS and VSC intervention.

From the feel of the foot. Turning TC off always made the engine sound raspier. Not just pressing the TC button once, but press+hold for 5 sec. There was a more direct response to input when it was turned off, especially when climbing uphills at low speeds - like driving up a steep driveway.

I'd love to go 235s in a PS A/S4 - hopefully the greater tire width would compensate for the slightly less grippy nature of the A/S tire and I'd have a car with about the same grip characteristics as stock but a) better looks (I find the stock tires look too skinny) and b) no need to swap on winter tires (I won't be driving this in snow of any significance). Oh also c) better protection from rim curb rash due to the sidewall being pushed out further from the rim. Does anyone know if 235s will fit on the stock rims without any wear, rubbing, or handling issues? Update: a cursory online search points to 235s being a bit too wide for a 7.5" rim for optimal driving characteristics. Maybe a 225? Last edited by Sport-Tech; 08-18-2022 at 12:07 PM. |

From another reviewer who drove all 4 models back to back and highlighted their throttle responses:
HE also commented on the different behaviors from each car due to their suspension differences. This should provide more insights as to which model to choose based on own's preferences. Quote:
