If thats the advantage of the GR86 for you, what are the advantages for the BRZ?

The only advantage of the BRZ is that you'll have a Subaru dealership who is more accustomed working with Boxer engines. Toyota had a chance to work with Boxer engines in the past 8 years, but not on that many cars. Exterior aesthetics are really subjective for everyone, so I cannot comment on that.

Anyone who works on a fwd V6 car can work on a boxer. Really shoot of cars have some sort of access issue somewhere, mechanics are just good at finding shortcuts or have the right tools. My mechanic rarely works on these cars but can change the spark plugs in the 86 in no time. Said it's no harder than working on a fwd V6, at least you can see your hands. He just uses a couple of articulating extensions.

I will never ever ever understand this whole "techs only know one make" concept that get's thrown around so often. Many Toyota techs have probably worked at Subaru before and vice versa. It isn't like techs are born into a specific brand and that is it. How do independent garages that work on all brands manage to figure things out? By sticking to this concept then it should be totally impossible for anybody to work on their own car since they would not be "accustomed" to it.

Except for the one I went to for the Fuel Pump recall where it was supposedly the 1st BRZ they have ever worked on. The Tech didn't even know where the fuel pump was..... At least they installed correctly, I hope. |

My mechanic is working most of his life with Subaru cars. He has built 400hp, 500hp, 600hp, ... , 1300hp engines. There are things that are new even to him like the D4-S, but the majority is similar to Impreza. Will I ever build my BRZ engine? I don't know. Maybe yes ... maybe no, but he is a real expert in his work and he is not looking around trying to figure out ...

Speaking of hoping the dealership got the fuel pump right. I just filled up the car, and it says it’s less than 3/4 full. They had one job. One. Job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yup. These engines are pretty simple and it really isn’t rocket science putting them together. The industry generally uses similar techniques for engine assembly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If were the case we wouldn't have the whole first gen recall time bomb engine fiasco!
