What is this black stuff in my clutch reservoir? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

42k miles, changing out my fluids and when I took the cap off the clutch fluid reservoir I saw this.

Any idea what it is and how do I clean it?

Normal, flush it with new fluid.

I just vacuum bled in new fluid and it didn't really go away. Old fluid was brown, new is clear.

If I agitate the black stuff it'll move. Should I stick a brush in there?

If the dark stuff floats, just suck it out with turkey baster (don't tell SO/mom/wife/GF that you used it for that).

Doesn't float, it's just at the bottom. The new fluid is clear though.

Oh well, I'd suggest you just sop up what you can and then like ol @Grady says, just flush it out.

It's just a hydraulic system, not an operating room -

It's rubber worn from the piston seals. No worries.

Happens all the time...I use a q-tip and swab it clean when I do a flush. Still doesn't clean things beyond the reservoir though, so there's probably no point in doing it, other than it making you happy.

I stirred it up really well before bleeding. It's all gone afterwards.
