Interesting point- Driving, which golfs were these? The MK5 and upwards platform?

What was your quarter mile time with that power?

Phoenix Performance Revision 3 - 95ron map

In My Opinion(IMO):
If you know how to drive the 86 effectively at the Reef
(Ie. Launch properly and stay within the power band of 5000rpm to 7200rpm) – you are not THAT SLOW…When taking on stock turbo's

Anyway back to this thread topic…

When I first contacted Phoenix Performance regarding a tune,
I had the following objectives:
• Eliminate Torque Dip &
• Responsive 95ron (Pump Fuel) map

“Responsive” meaning it has some “Go”, not expecting to drag race and get 5.5sec 0 to 100 etc,
But enough to not be bullied on the road by Audi A1’s
95ron fuel - so its a practical everyday car as well

I decided to go out to FR&R tuning Dyno tonight
(This is opened to the public on a Thursday night, every two weeks).
It was populated with Golf GTi drivers gloating about how many seconds they ran quicker than the other at the various drag racing events
(Im sure their wives are also counting how many seconds(Not of racing)..., Lol just kidding)

There were also a few Modded 335i’s and 135i’s and Oh My FU#K they sound sooooo aggressive and sweet when revv’d up…

I got onto the Dyno and asked them to use the same settings as my previous run at the 9/11 Dyno Day (Ie – When BumbleBee came up to JHB to dyno),

They ran it on 4th gear but I could see the car hopping when they changed gears (IMO it was not correctly placed on the dyno)
The graph then appeared and after 6000 rpm’s the curves dropped completely (vertically),
They then ran the car on 3rd gear
(Which I was not excited about as I did not have a comparison anymore)…

Results – Torque Curve – IMO is Flat as Fu#k!

162.5whp on 3rd gear @the Reef with the Phoenix Performance 95ron Tune!!

Im a happy LAD! Phoenix Performance FTW!

NB. I had no doubt that it would be as such.
Although these graphs are great(Show results) they don’t do justice...
Because the results that really matter to me...is actually driving it, feeling the smooth power(and responsiveness) through the gears and bullying (Stock)turbo cars on the road

Thank You Phoenix Performance for exceeding my expectations with the 95Ron Tune!

3. Personal Comparison
(NB. Not a professional/technical comparison, as there's too many variables involved to get to a scientific rocket science before and after)

Looking forward to developments of this map in the future

Well done, glad to see the torque dip is gone and it looks nice & smooth.

BTW
That's 1nm more than what I got in summer with stock header on 95. I'm under no illusions, leave the turbo cars alone.

My word, fantastic result @FT_86_SM_GP , congrats!

3rd gear generally puts out less power on the dyno so when you get a chance, it might be worth checking out 4th gear! It might surprise you even more.

As mentioned, that torque "LINE" is insane. ...almost the entire line is above the highest peak torque value on your previous run.

All things considered, epic result!

@Phoenix* , job well done man!!!

Thank you for all your support!
I'm glad the tune has met your expectations.
We have quite a few new features within our Rev3 development, including dual DBW/throttle driveability options with having VSC either on and off.
Enjoy the car, and I hope it gives you many safe happy miles.
There should be an update available very soon for improved fuel economy. I will also be preparing settings for exhaust popping and/or flame throwing on overrun for customers who have been putting forward such crazy requests...lol

All the best!

Regards,
Marco

Good power at the reef, should be awesome at the coast.
In terms of Mods, what else can be done to this car on pump?

Drop-in aftermarket filter, UEL header and a full catless exhaust along with a tune to tie it all together is probably the best bang for buck combination in terms of power - assuming the parts and tune are of a good quality.

Over and above this, its best to be looking at going the forced induction (Turbo/SC) route.

Nope, not a customer: He is the owner of "TurboDirect" who are the local Garret "agents".

He is upset that there are now another South African suppliers...AKA Phoenix Performance, Pyro Performance etc... and is all of a sudden making some VERY brash claims - and funny enough was recently in "hot water" with Garret and Tial over a few incidents:

Looks to me like a a case of someone suddenly waking up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning...

Anyways, here was the reply on the Phoenix page:

Many thanks to Damien and Marco for the Kaymak Header install and 95 RON Tune they did on my 86 while I was in Cape Town. No issues whatsoever on the long drive back to Durban. What a difference in performance! It now pulls as well as it handles.
Hopefully get a dyno run in tomorrow but on the road it feels fantastic.
