Passenger Seat Belt Alarm

I noticed in the FR-S I can't put my laptop or my cell phone in the passenger seat when they are turned on without the beeping like crazy for the passenger to buckle up.
In the BRZ Limited, it does not seem to have this problem. I find it to be a major irritation in the FR-S.
My question, does the BRZ Premium have this problem?

Is it the leather/alcantara seat coverings that solve this?

Something to do with the airbag on/off switch for the passenger seat. Instead if detection by weight, it uses some sort of electrical current capacity test. (I dunno...) Puuting electronic devices will trick the seat into thinking there is a passenger there. Oddly, getting the seat a little wet will trick the system to turn the airbag off, even if there is a passenger.

On my BRZ, I put my cell phone on the seat (in an Otter case) every day and it doesn't switch the airbag setting to on, so I don't know if the Limited is less sensitive?

I also heard that if the seat gets wet it sets off a CEL due to the airbag sensor, so if your driving around all crazy with a passenger and the light comes on, may want to check their pants....

You could fasten the passenger seatbelt so it thinks the "person" in the passenger seat is buckled in until you bring it to the dealership
