You guys work so hard. I drove my BRZ onto my ramps. Opened the hood. Pulled the drain plug after putting my oil catcher under it. Pulled the oil filter, so easy, replaced it, hand tight. Went back under the car and pulled the catcher out of the way, and put the plug back.

About 5 minutes.

I'm too fat and my car is too low to just use ramps LOL.

Plus when the car is up, i usually find other mods to install or do while it's up

+1 on the fumoto valve. Cuts a lot of time and is less messy.

but in my case, it only works when one remembers to close the valve while re-filling the oil... otherwise, it takes way longer while having to run all the way into to town for a new jug of oil...

Tbh this has happened to me way more than it should've happened.

You live and you learn I suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LO. Most of the work is crawling under the car. I have a socket set and that nut is a few seconds.

If you buy anything like that dumb. its just gonna crack me up.

you must have spectacular hand/eye coordination, tied with some extreme luck.

my routine procedure pre-fumoto was:

get properly sized socket

lay out cardboard

place drain pan just under and behind oil plug to catch the stream

crawl under car

realize that the socket is for the truck, and the car uses a different socket size

get out, get right socket

crawl back under

loosen drain plug, which either drops into the pan to get lost in the oil to play
go-fish, or i manage to grab it, scald my hands in the hot oil stream, which then sprays in every direction but where the drain pan is

realize that i didn't place the drain pan far enough back, 0.5-1qt shoots past the pan, and then always finds the edge of the cardboard to drain onto the concrete i was trying to protect in the first place

swear jar used

drain all the oil out, relocate drain plug that's made a run for the border while relocating the drain pan to collect the stream that went too far

reinstall drain plug

refill oil

move car

toss the cardboard, haul out the oil dry to make a valiant attempt to not leave oil spots all over my driveway

pour drain pan into my used oil container, which misses, and dumps more oil that i'll need to clean up.

and suddenly i'm at the 2 hour mark for a "15 minute job"...

post-fumoto, i crawl under, drain straight into the used oil container using the hose adapter, close the valve, and i'm done. it might cost me a little more in 'flushing' new oil into the used oil container, but i'm saving significant money on oil dry and time. last time i did it, it took longer to yank the jack out of it's hiding spot in the garage than it did to do the entire oil change start to finish.

Honestly I used to think it was really unnecessary, and I suppose it isn't necessary but it actually does make a significant difference. Now the only tools needed for an oil change are the jack and stands. Instead of wrenching with a socket and wondering how much oil I'm going to get on my hands or the driveway, I just turn a tab 90* with no mess (and that's without the hose adapter)

I have been wrenching my own cars since the 70s of the last century.

My record for a motor removal, by the side of the road using a log tripod and a come along is about 40 min. I did break the exhaust bolts.

Changing oil on the BRZ is so easy, that I cannot think of an easier car maintenance procedure. If you really operate as you describe, I'd get help.

I just drive it up on my ramps. That's 30 secs. I don't spill oil as its easy not too and I have been using a camping foam for under car work for decades. Comfy even.
