This video is great btw I watched the whole thing. Loved the 2JZ teardown and rebuild and the hatch build too.
I’m no expert on how to maximize rpms or power, but turbo motors are load dependent, so long gears and high rpms seem like a plus. A long stroke is good for torque, but, as the rpms increase, the piston speeds get so fast that the flame front is chasing the piston, so torque drops off at the top of the rev range. Looking at high revving motors like BMW’s S65 (8400rpm redline), the stroke was only 75mm with a bore of 92mm, so over square design, which allowed for the high redline. The 2JZ not only had wicked top end power, but it pulled so hard to redline, which felt amazing. Where other motors seem to be dropping off in torque, the 2JZ wanted to give more. I don’t know if the redline was underrated. For the B58, I bet they wanted a shorter engine, even if it is an inch, and they wanted more stroke for faster spool.

Adding a brand name only adds cost not necessarily quality or performance

100% of the race cqrs or big Hp cars I know have either had their exhausts made at a exhaust shop or in their own garage

Brand name pre-fabed exhausts are more a convenience thing

I mean...I'm aware of that. But a lot of what you pay for is the sound, which for 4 cylinder and turbo engines requires a bit of carefulness, lest you be stuck with something that sounds horrible. Obviously people with race/track cars don't care - and it's usually very clear at the track when those cars drive by, sounding absolutely atrocious.

Don't know if anyone is still watching Top Gear, but they had a good piece on the Supra this week. Chris Harris wasn't much of a fan though.

The lap and part of the piece on it is here, but I couldn't find the results portion to post. it was 1:23.1 which was a good performance but it was well down on the board.

Seems like the Supra could be improved according to professional racer Tom O.

I've been curious weather BMW will save their M engine for their cars, or if the Supra will get an M engine. What do you think? Will the Supra get the new S58?

Just for reference, this engine in the X3M/X4M is putting out over 500hp and that is for a crossover. Guaranteed the newer M sedans will be getting more power than that.

Pricing announced for the C8. 1LT is $59,995, 2LT $67,295, 3LT $71,945

https://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-v...885884#pricing

With pricing officially announced I think I'm going to go ahead and put a deposit down on the 1LT. It's still a hell of a lot of car for the money.

maybe not anytime in the near future, but i could see this happening towards the end of Surpas life cycle. by then BMW would already be working on the next best thing so the S58 would be yesterdays news. kinda like how the M2 now has the S55 in place of the N55.

Pretty impressive showing for a nearly stock car. Toyota's chassis tuning with the Supra looks to be on-point. Brakes might be a weak point though.
