Lol maybe it's socal drivers, but my FRS had a hard time keeping up with Camrys off the line... And when my wife drives her Odyssey, I can't keep up off the line.. on windy roads and is where the 86 shines... But anything else, the 86 is a joke

2017! refreshed model year, still relatively new, don't have to worry about any valve spring recalls!

I guess I've gotten lucky with my car. I haven't even had to replace the fuel pump to stop the cricket noise. Other than a dead battery,my car has been pretty rock solid. |

The only year to watch out for is 2013 because of the valve spring recall, but even that should be fine if enough time/miles have elapsed since it was done. For example, I’m one year and 9000 miles past having the recall done on my 2013 and it’s been rock solid. Those miles were nearly all hard canyon miles and two track days. Actually my s2000 friend who regularly drives my car in the canyons told me to let him know if I ever decide to sell it, but I’m confident enough in the engine work that Im not letting it go anytime soon.
So if you can get a good deal on a 2013 and enough miles have passed since it had the recall done, I wouldn’t worry about it. The vast majority of failures happened within a few hundred miles. Past that, you should be good to go. If youve got a little more money, there were some nice updates from 2014-2016. Overall these cars are very reliable. In the 8 years I’ve owned mine, I’ve done about 40 track days and lots of canyon miles and haven’t had any real issues. The TOB and two coilpacks is the extent of what I’ve replaced (not counting track consumables like pads, tires, and rotors). Overall still love this car and would highly recommend it. It’s been 8 years of fun miles and experiences with a great community.

haha, exactly. If you bought this car for stoplight racing, or any other kind of drag racing, you seriously bought the wrong car. Yes, with enough money and enough determination, you can make it work, but you might as well start with something else.

And there is soooo much exaggeration about how slow this car is. It’s obviously way faster than A LOT of owner’s driving skills, evidenced by the number of these things that end up rebuilt. This isn’t a ZR1 and it wasn’t designed to be. It’s a fantastically fun and affordable car that’s a blast on curves and to just row through the gears day to day on your way to and from work. Jesus people have gotten spoiled. And, by the way, there’s not a single minivan made for the US market that is even very close to the BRZ in 0-60 or 1/4 mile time. And those figures are produced with a driver only, not a driver and 5 passengers. For Pete’s sake. https://www.zeroto60times.com/body-style/van/ Neither is there a Corolla. https://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicl...-mph-timesaver A current V6 Camry is quicker, on a track with a professional driver, but it’s close enough that a skilled driver could easily be in the hunt on a 1/4 mile run. On a road course, the BRZ would easily handle the Camry, and be a helluva lot more fun doing so. If you’re getting spanked by minivans, Corollas, and camrys, you’re either doing something wrong, or you need a tune up. Bad. If your comment was made in jest, forgive my mini-rant. |

i suspect he's one of those drivers that get worried about revving it out all the way. i've met more than a few that try to drive the car like a v8, shifting at 3k rpm max, and then complain the cars a dog and has no power.
the people i've met that understand you've got to be bouncing off the rev limiter to make power are usually the one's that compliment the car the most.

Been driving stick my whole life... RHD and LHD... I redlined my old FRS regularly prior to the recall.... but not as much after the recall... And my wife's minivan spanks me all day lol..and I am not even talking abt racing... Just merging on a freeway was a pain
What soundman just stated is what makes this car obnoxious... U need to keep rpms high to get any power... Add a header and exhaust and u're a cop magnet... 80% of any usable power for daily driving is just not there...why do u think the FRS/BRZ/86 is one of the most ticketed cars out there? Immature drivers is one, but how u need to drive it to be fun is another |
